Some of Tottenham’s squad will be hoping to impress new manager Roberto De Zerbi over the next few weeks, with the north London club battling to stay in the Premier League.

Tottenham are preparing to face Sunderland this weekend in a crucial clash as they attempt to steer themselves away from the bottom three.

Spurs currently sit just one point above the relegation zone with seven games remaining in the Premier League, but without a win in 2026, it’s not looking good for the north London club.

The hierarchy will be hoping that the appointment of De Zerbi is what they need to secure survival, as it’s incredibly important that they remain in the Premier League heading into the 2026/2027 season.

Simons Set for Big Role at Tottenham

"Xavi

According to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge, one player who is set to make an impact under De Zerbi is Xavi Simons.

Bridge suggests that he is set to play a ‘huge role’ under the new manager, despite finding things difficult under Igor Tudor.

Bridge describes some of the treatment of Simons by Tudor as ‘baffling’, after he was dropped against Nottingham Forest despite scoring twice against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League.

Tottenham are struggling when it comes to creativity, with Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison both out injured as it stands.

That’s where Simons can flourish, despite not showing the levels at Tottenham that he produced during his time with RB Leipzig just yet.

De Zerbi Key to Simons Flourishing at Tottenham

De Zerbi is known for playing exciting, attacking football, which could help Simons flourish at Tottenham.

Simons has, so far, played under both Thomas Frank and Tudor, two managers who are a little more pragmatic, and they have been unable to get the best out of the Dutch attacking midfielder.

Getting the most from Simons could be crucial for De Zerbi in their battle to stay in the Premier League, as he’s a player capable of being a goalscoring and creative threat.

Simons has shown glimpses of being a player capable of doing just that during his time at Spurs, but he’s not been consistent enough so far this season.

[33
218,101,56,54,55
post-521513","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-football","tag-football","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
