The Government has confirmed the changes\"UK<\/p>\n

Pensioners with incomes over \u00a335,000 will be targeted.<\/p>\n

Some pensioners will see their payments cut by \u00a317 a month under new Government rules.<\/p>\n

HMRC will be taking back some money from over-65s.<\/p>\n

It relates to Winter Fuel Payments and claiming the money back from those who weren’t eligible for the support.<\/p>\n

These is people with incomes above \u00a335,000.<\/p>\n

This group no longer qualifies for Winter Fuel Payments each year because they are judged to be financially comfortable enough to cope without them.<\/p>\n

HMRC will be clawing it back in instalments through changes to tax code.<\/p>\n

A small chunk of pension payments is now being diverted to the taxman for these households.<\/p>\n

For under-80s who get \u00a3200 Winter Fuel Payments, the tax authority will be taking back \u00a317 a month.<\/p>\n

This will happen automatically though tax codes, unless people already file self-assessments.<\/p>\n

The rules were confirmed by the Government as part of changes to Winter Fuel Payments, which were previously universal for all retirees.<\/p>\n

It said: “If your total income is over \u00a335,000, you\u2019ll need to pay back the payment.<\/p>\n

“HMRC will automatically collect the payment through your tax code unless you already file self-assessment tax returns.<\/p>\n

“This means we\u2019ll change your tax code for the 2026 to 2027 tax year. For a typical payment of \u00a3200, we\u2019ll deduct approximately \u00a317 per month.<\/p>\n

“In the 2027 to 2028 tax year, we\u2019ll deduct approximately \u00a333 per month for a typical payment of \u00a3200.<\/p>\n

“This is because we\u2019ll be collecting your payments from 2026 and 2027. It will then return to approximately \u00a317 per month for the 2028 to 2029 tax year.<\/p>\n

“If you file your self-assessment tax return online each year, HMRC will automatically include the payment on your 2025 to 2026 tax return as part of your income.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Government has confirmed the changes Pensioners with incomes over \u00a335,000 will be targeted.
