The BBC<\/a> has confirmed the return date for the second season of cosy detective drama Sister Boniface Mysteries.<\/p>\n

The show is a spin-off<\/a> of BBC One afternoon staple Father Brown, but the Beeb don’t premiere new Boniface episodes in the UK. Instead, the broadcaster is slowly bringing the older seasons to a wider audience.<\/p>\n

The first episode of the second season will air on BBC One on Friday 22 August at 2pm, while all 10 instalments will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer on the same day (via RadioTimes<\/a>). <\/p>\n

The episodes won’t stay on iPlayer for all that long, however, as season one aired on BBC One from August through to October last year, and has already been removed from the streaming service.<\/p>\n

All three seasons so far are available free with ads at their regular home, streaming service U<\/a>. Season four is expected to come to the service and air on channel U&Drama soon (a 19 August premiere has been confirmed for BritBox in the US, so hopefully the wait won’t be too long in the UK).<\/p>\n

Set in the fictional village of Great Slaughter in the 1960s, Sister Boniface Mysteries follows the adventures of a nun with a doctorate in forensic science, which she puts to good use solving crimes of the week (and she also finds the time to make her own wine).<\/p>\n

Just like its parent show, the spin-off has been praised by fans, with IMDb<\/a> user reviews calling it “a charming watch” and “wonderful light, amusing British TV”.<\/p>\n

Another fan<\/a> called it “a very unusual spin-off series” that has “some wonderful guest actors, and a nice regular cast”, with particular praise for Belinda Lang as Mrs Clam.<\/p>\n

Mark Williams’s Father Brown himself has popped up for a guest appearance, with one recurring fan complaint is that they’d like him to to show up more often.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Father Brown, filming recently wrapped up on the most recent season<\/a>, and the soap star-filled list of guest stars was officially confirmed.<\/p>\n

Sister Boniface Mysteries season 2 airs on BBC One and streams on iPlayer from 22 August, while all three seasons are available on U. Season 4 is coming soon, while Father Brown can be streamed on iPlayer.<\/p>\n
