Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> has issued an apology after mistaking Zaghrouta, a celebratory Arabic chant, for a yodel during her headlining Coachella<\/a> set.<\/p>\n

In a viral clip from Friday night\u2019s (April 10) performance, an audience member can be making a high-pitched cheer she struggled to hear clearly over the crowd. \u201cI think I heard someone yodel,\u201d she said from the stage while she sat behind a piano. \u201cIs that what you\u2019re doing? I don\u2019t like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zaghrouta is a trilling vocal sound that indicates celebration, and the festivalgoer responded by shouting to tell the \u2018House Tour\u2019 singer: \u201cIt\u2019s my culture.\u201d Carpenter, still unclear on what it was, playfully responded, \u201cThat\u2019s your culture, is yodeling?\u201d The audience member added, \u201cIt\u2019s a call of celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs this Burning Man? What\u2019s going on? This is weird,\u201d Carpenter replied. The interaction sparked backlash for Carpenter, who last night (April 11) directly replied to an X post that wrote, \u201csabrina saying that she doesn\u2019t like a cultural arabic cheer\u2026 this is so insensitive and islamophobic. i am very disappointed in her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy apologies i didn\u2019t see this person with my eyes and couldn\u2019t hear clearly,\u201d she wrote. \u201cMy reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended. could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is!\u201d I welcome all cheers and yodels from here on out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carpneter served as the first headliner of the 2026 festival, delivering a star-studded set that invoked the spirit of Hollywood<\/a>, with special guest appearances from Sam Elliott, Susan Sarandon<\/a> and Will Ferrell<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Having promised fans her \u201cmost ambitious show\u201d yet<\/a>, the standout visuals of the set included the additon of men dressed as dogs, a moment she invited the the crowd to light up their flashlights and illuminate the stage, and rounding off her set elevated above the crowd as water rained down.<\/p>\n
