David Haye has angered I’m A Celebrity fans with his ‘sexist’ comments about ‘ugly girls’.<\/p>\n
During a conversation in camp today, things started innocently enough when it was suggested the group should meet up for a party when they left the show, and David said his girlfriend Sian was a great cook and would cater for their event.<\/a><\/p>\n He then added: \u201cShe’s like tall, blue eyes. She\u2019s lovely. She’s got the personality of a proper ugly bird.\u201d<\/p>\n Scarlett Moffatt replied: \u201cYou can\u2019t say that.\u201d David brushed off the response and added: \u201cShe has. Most ugly girls realise they don’t they’re not pretty enough to\u2026.they gotta have a personality to banter and to tell jokes and s**t, so people overlook the fact that they’re not aesthetically amazing, straight away.<\/p>\n David came under fire for his comments(Image: ITV\/Shutterstock)<\/p>\n “Which is what’s called Ugly Duckling syndrome, where girls are ugly, when they start off, and then they and then they kind of they, they get pretty as they get older. But they still got the personality of when they’re ugly. Does that make sense?\u201d<\/p>\n Everyone was shocked by David’s comments, as he continued ‘digging himself a hole’. He said: “You get a girl who’s pretty from day one, you get a girl who’s different day one. Everyone goes \u2018You’re so beautiful. You\u2019re amazing\u2019. She grows up thinking, I’m amazing. Everyone loves me. I can open any door. I can go anywhere I want.<\/p>\n “They don’t have to have a personality, because most super pretty girls are just idiots. But then their ugly friend, they\u2019ve got work a bit harder, be more personable. They got to be nicer to everyone. Gonna get you a drink.\u201d<\/p>\n “You are just talking s***,” an angry Scarlett fumed. Actor Beverley Callard added: \u201cComplete claptrap. So do handsome men have s*** personalities? I have never heard anything so sexist in all my life.\u201d<\/p>\n David later concluded he would be with his girlfriend \u201ceven if she didn\u2019t look how she looked”, as Beverley said: \u201cHe has hit the jackpot, but his partner has got the booby prize.\u201d<\/p>\n Angry fans fumed over his comments. One fan wrote: “David is so unbelievably painfully arrogant and insecure #ImACeleb<\/a> Bev got it right! He is the boobie prize!” as another added: “Very confused how David Haye has a girlfriend at all, never mind two at once #ImACeleb<\/a>.”<\/p>\n ” #ImACeleb<\/a> Comments like those from David Haye about \u2018ugly girls\u2019 needing personality aren\u2019t just outdated, they\u2019re disrespectful and dehumanising. Even worse, most laughed instead of challenging it. More voices need to speak up when this kind of casual sexism gets a pass.
