{"id":529937,"date":"2026-04-14T07:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T07:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/529937\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T07:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T07:48:08","slug":"worms-sent-to-space-for-extreme-conditions-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/529937\/","title":{"rendered":"Worms sent to space for extreme conditions research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dr Tim Etheridge, from the University of Exeter, said: &#8220;By studying how these worms survive and adapt in space, we can begin to identify the biological mechanisms that will ultimately help protect astronauts during long-duration missions \u2014 and bring us one step closer to humans living on the Moon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prof Mark Sims, project manager for the Fluorescent Deep Space Petri-Pods project at Leicester, added it was the university&#8217;s first &#8220;major&#8221; microgravity life sciences project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It has been both an interesting and challenging instrument to design and build.
