{"id":529996,"date":"2026-04-14T08:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T08:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/529996\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T08:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T08:51:08","slug":"new-british-built-nissan-juke-unveiled-as-radically-styled-ev","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/529996\/","title":{"rendered":"New British-built Nissan Juke unveiled as radically styled EV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-reviews\/nissan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nissan<\/a> has unveiled the new\u00a0Juke as its third EV, a car that it says will \u201chelp us reach new customers\u201d, thanks to its radical new exterior design.<\/p>\n<p>The quirky SUV is Nissan&#8217;s second best-seller in Europe after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/nissan\/Qashqai\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Qashqai<\/a>, with more than 1.5 million examples sold since the original was\u00a0launched in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The third-generation Juke, unveiled early this morning at the brand\u2019s future-looking Vision Event in Japan, is based on Nissan\u2019s CMF-EV platform\u00a0and so powered exclusively by electricity.<\/p>\n<p>It will share much of its underpinnings with the smaller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/nissan\/leaf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leaf<\/a> EV, alongside which it will be built at Nissan\u2019s Sunderland factory.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese firm\u2019s answer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/Ford\/Puma-Gen-E\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ford Puma Gen-E<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/Kia\/EV3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kia EV3<\/a> sports a \u201creimagining\u201d of the Juke\u2019s\u00a0heavily\u00a0sculptured and\u00a0distinctive design, as previewed by 2024\u2019s radical Hyper Punk concept. It also features its own\u00a0light signature at the front and rear.<\/p>\n<p>As its predecessors have done since 2010 with their \u201cbold designs\u201d that \u201cchallenge convention\u201d, the new Juke will \u201chelp us reach new customers\u201d within the EV market, said regional product boss Cl\u00edodhna Lyons.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" height=\"607\" width=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/nissan_juke_ev_different_colours.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>However, in an effort to continue catering for as many customers as possible, the new Juke will be sold alongside an updated version of the current second-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-review\/nissan\/juke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juke<\/a>\u00a0hybrid.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan originally planned to replace the Mk2\u00a0with the Mk3, but slower-than-expected EV sales growth made this move financially untenable.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0Nissan Europe boss Massimiliano Messina was steadfast in confirming that the brand \u201cremain firmly committed to a fully electric future&#8221;, saying the decision to offer both powertrains brings \u201cgreater choice\u201d to buyers while helping to \u201caccelerate our transition to zero-emission mobility\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Expected updates for the Mk2 Juke, which is also manufactured at Sunderland, are expected to\u00a0concentrate on aligning its design with the Mk3. Its technology, now seven years old, is also due a refresh.<\/p>\n<p>Details of what underpins the new Juke have yet to be confirmed, but it&#8217;s expected to mirror the Leaf.
