Microsoft is reportedly weighing up the idea of making Xbox games exclusive to its platform again, as fresh leadership evaluates the brand and looks to release Project Helix onto the market.<\/p>\n

Jez Corden of Windows Central makes the claim, stating on a recent podcast<\/a> there’s a “very very very big discussion about the exclusivity stuff” happening internally at Microsoft right now. Supposedly, executives within the wider Microsoft corporation are beginning to recognise the importance of Xbox and games as its where the firm can reach consumers when they’re not working.<\/p>\n

Xbox-developed games have been exclusive to Xbox consoles and PC for generations, but that all changed as the brand experimented with releasing four titles onto PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch: Hi-Fi Rush<\/a>, Pentiment<\/a>, Sea of Thieves<\/a>, and Grounded<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since then, Microsoft’s efforts to get its titles onto other platforms have only increased. It’s now assumed all Xbox-published games will make their way to PS5 at launch, or in the case of Forza Horizon 6<\/a>, soon after. Halo: Campaign Evolved<\/a> and Fable<\/a> are confirmed for PS5 too, and Gears of War: E-Day<\/a> is expected to be ported over, also, following the series’ original title releasing on PS5 in the form of Gears of War: Reloaded<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The iconic Halo franchise was seen as the last bastion for Microsoft by fans, but even it is coming to PS5 this year with a full remake of Halo: Combat Evolved<\/a>. In fact, following the initial reveal, community director Brian Jarrad said the Halo series is now on PlayStation “going forward”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While exclusive games would indeed make Project Helix a more enticing product for hardcore players, it’ll be tough for Microsoft to ignore the money it’s leaving on the table generated from PS5 ports. Forza Horizon 5<\/a>, for example, has proven extremely popular on PS5<\/a>, and this year’s sixth entry is expected to replicate that success.<\/p>\n
