Robbie Williams<\/a> has hit back at a \u201cbully\u201d podcaster who called him a \u201credcoat\u201d and a \u201cfraud\u201d.<\/p>\n

The pop star was the topic of discussion in one of the episodes of the World Cup Of\u2026 podcast recently, and faced harsh criticism from the two hosts.<\/p>\n

In a clip shared to Instagram, the two hosts recall how the \u2018Angels\u2019 singer initially rose to fame as a member of Take That<\/a> in the 1990s, before launching a solo career.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just a fucking Redcoat who queued up to be in Gary Barlow\u2019s<\/a> band and got lucky,\u201d one host said, with the term \u201cRedcoat\u201d used to described entertainers at British holiday resort, Butlins.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobbie Williams? Never been a fan of him,\u201d the host continued, going on to recall his attendance at Glastonbury<\/a> in 1995, saying he showed up with \u201cbleached blonde hair, knocked about with Liam Gallagher<\/a>, probably just shared a big bag of fucking gear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe surrounded himself with artists\u2026 proper artists,\u201d the other host added, while they also suggested that Williams \u201cnicked their credibility\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was [then] like, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re a rockstar?\u2019\u2026 you\u2019re not a rockstar, you\u2019re a fraud. You\u2019re not a songwriter. You might have songwriting credits because whoever wrote \u2018Angels\u2019 was happy to say that they co-wrote it with you. You were just in the fucking room.\u201d<\/p>\n

After coming across the post online, Williams took to social media to respond to the harsh comments aimed at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy algorithm sent me this,\u201d he began. \u201cI went to Glastonbury because people my age went to Glastonbury. I\u2019ve never called myself a rock star. Not once.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for being given the label \u2018Redcoat\u2019, he added: \u201cI grew up on holiday camps. What\u2019s wrong with being a Redcoat? I know exactly who and what I am. You, however, display a kind of cruelty that doesn\u2019t even recognise itself. Scary. I\u2019m a real Redcoat. You\u2019re a real bully. I know which one I\u2019d rather be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concluding, he offered to show the presenters \u201cone of my houses, so you can see exactly how lucky I\u2019ve been\u201d, and quipped: \u201cI\u2019ll send my plane to pick you up\u201d.<\/p>\n

Robbie has spoken about his memorable appearance at Glastonbury 1995 in the past, and recalled back in 2022 the indie snobbery he noticed in the mid-1990s and Britpop era<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c[There was] that school of thought that pop music is a lower art form,\u201d he told NME. \u201cI grew up in a time where that was never more prevalent, that sort of militant indie-ness: them against us. And by them against \u2018us\u2019 I mean indie people against pop people.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cYou know, me turning up at Glastonbury\u2026 I\u2019m trying to put it into terms that won\u2019t get me in trouble, but it was like Putin turning up in Westminster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams also added that partying with Oasis at Glastonbury in 1995, after leaving Take That, felt like the \u201cstart of his new life\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started getting ideas about writing my own songs. One thing led to another and I made the cardinal mistake of breaking the rules. They couldn\u2019t contain me anymore,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI set off with [a] flute full of champagne and a pocket full of cocaine, ready to get insane in the membrane and I went to Glastonbury to begin what I didn\u2019t know was to be the start of my new life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

One of the photos taken of Robbie at the 1995 edition of Glastonbury was also used as the artwork for the singer\u2019s latest solo album, \u2018BRITPOP<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

When he first announced the record last year<\/a>, Williams said he set out to create the album he wanted to write after leaving Take That in 1995.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve worked with some of my heroes on this album\u2026 There\u2019s some \u2018Brit\u2019 in there and there\u2019s certainly some \u2018pop\u2019 too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams broke The Beatles\u2019 record for the most UK Number One albums with \u2018BRITPOP<\/a>\u2019, with it marking the 16th chart-topper of his solo career.<\/p>\n

In a three-star review of \u2018BRITPOP\u2019<\/a>, NME described the album as \u201ca love letter to the \u201990s and a bid to live forever\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s standing firm. Rather than neck a BuzzBall on a Lime Bike and do his take on \u2018Brat\u2019<\/a>, Robbie knows his game and has done a record for himself,\u201d it added. \u201cAn album to be remembered for? Probably not, but it\u2019s bold, it\u2019s a laugh, and he\u2019s done it his way. That\u2019s what makes him Robbie.
