Yemm hosted a debate in Parliament this week about the experiences of young people with cancer – and urged the government to deliver its 10-year cancer plan “with urgency, with funding, and with accountability”.<\/p>\n

The National Cancer Plan for England, external<\/a>, published earlier this year, promises earlier cancer diagnosis and faster treatment.<\/p>\n

Louie’s mum Chloe, who has been documenting the family’s journey on social media, said: “As a family, we had never experienced anything like this.<\/p>\n

“They say its uncommon, but here we are, we are just a normal family – you don’t expect something like this to happen to you.<\/p>\n

“As a family, me, my husband and my children, we are very much supported. But for his grandparents, like my mum and my mother-in-law, there isn’t help there for them.<\/p>\n

“For me, that is a massive thing, and more needs to be done for the extended family.<\/p>\n

“Until I got the phone call, I didn’t know what an oncology ward was. As parents, we aren’t aware of the reality of cancer until it happens to you.”<\/p>\n

Chloe and Louie want to start a podcast to help other families to deal with a cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n
