That phone is already pretty novel, with its triple-folding design \u2014 and a recently surfaced US patent application shows that Samsung may have entertained a similar design with even larger displays.<\/p>\n<p>IT firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkright.com\/blog\/samsung-galaxy-z-tri-fold-wide-has-leaked-in-patent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NetworkRight<\/a> highlighted the patent application in a blog post. The <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/678abcc02127aa65a0ae946b\/69de691e0c3597784a9d1bfe_samsung_galaxy_z_tri_fold_wide_patent.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">application<\/a>, filed last year and published in March, is for a \u201cmulti-foldable electronic device\u201d \u2014 the Galaxy Z TriFold \u2014 and also includes imagery showing a triple-folding smartphone with a much wider display.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t want to miss the best from Android Authority?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/andauth.co\/AAGooglePreferredSource\" class=\"e_dm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\"><img class=\"e_Wg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google preferred source badge light@2x\"  alt=\"google preferred source badge light@2x\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768240152_738_google_preferred_source_badge_light@2x.png\"\/><img class=\"e_Wg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"google preferred source badge dark@2x\"  alt=\"google preferred source badge dark@2x\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1768240152_238_google_preferred_source_badge_dark@2x.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple of illustrations in the patent application depict a version of the Galaxy Z TriFold with a squarer aspect ratio for its cover display, with a shape more reminiscent of a tablet than a modern smartphone.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"e_Wg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"wide tri fold patent 1\"  alt=\"wide tri fold patent 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/wide-tri-fold-patent-1.png\"\/><img class=\"e_Wg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"wide tri fold patent 2\"  alt=\"wide tri fold patent 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/wide-tri-fold-patent-2.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In the context of the patent application, these images aren\u2019t explicitly meant to depict a separate device (they\u2019re mixed in with images showing a triple-folding phone more similar to the existing Z TriFold). Even if it were a wholly separate, patented design, patents don\u2019t guarantee an idea will make it to production. Still, it\u2019s an interesting development.<\/p>\n<p>Leaked info indicates Samsung is working on a version of its Galaxy Z Fold 8 with dimensions more similar to a typical book: proportionally wider than the Z Fold 7 when closed, and extra-wide when open. Given we\u2019re fairly sure this \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/mystery-samsung-listing-hints-at-fourth-foldable-3655509\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wide Fold<\/a>\u201d will materialize this year, it\u2019s not out of the question that Samsung may have considered an even wider TriFold design. Given the existing model\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-too-expensive-3635521\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contentious $2,900 price tag<\/a>, though, even more screen in a similar phone might not be a realistic prospect.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for being part of our community.
