{"id":531950,"date":"2026-04-15T09:50:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T09:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/531950\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T09:50:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T09:50:07","slug":"paris-art-enthusiast-wins-e1m-picasso-painting-in-e100-charity-raffle-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/531950\/","title":{"rendered":"Paris art enthusiast wins \u20ac1m Picasso painting in \u20ac100 charity raffle | France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A Parisian art enthusiast could not believe his luck when he found out on Tuesday he had won a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/pablo-picasso\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pablo Picasso<\/a> painting worth more than \u20ac1m with a \u20ac100 raffle ticket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cHow do I check that it\u2019s not a hoax?\u201d said Ari Hodara, 58, after organisers called him following the draw at Christie\u2019s auction house in the French capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Hodara described himself as an art amateur fond of Picasso and said he had bought his ticket over the weekend after finding out about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2026\/apr\/13\/picasso-tete-de-femme-charity-raffle\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the charity raffle<\/a> by chance during a meal in a restaurant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cFirst, I will tell the news to my wife, who has yet to return from work,\u201d said Hodara, a sales engineer. \u201cAnd at first I think I\u2019ll take advantage of it and keep it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The third iteration of the \u201c1 Picasso for \u20ac100\u201d lottery, in aid of Alzheimer\u2019s research, offered Picasso\u2019s Head of a Woman, a portrait of the artist\u2019s longtime muse and partner Dora Maar painted in 1941.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Organisers said all 120,000 tickets had been sold, netting \u20ac12m (\u00a310.4m), of which \u20ac1m will be paid to the Opera Gallery, an international art dealership that owned the painting.
