A new option can effectively hide the vertical content altogether.

Although Shorts have been part of YouTube for half a decade now, the quickfire content isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you’re a fan of traditional long-form videos and care not for snappy, vertical clips, a new option lets you ignore it entirely.

Announced back in October, 2025, YouTube revealed new parental settings designed to help limit younger users’ time spent scrolling Shorts. At the time, however, the previous lowest option was to implement a 15-minute cap.

Article continues after ad

Now, as first reported by The Verge, time management settings on YouTube have an option for a zero-minute limit. This effectively removes Shorts from the YouTube mobile application.

YouTube shorts can now be removed from your feed

The zero-minute option is now live for all parental accounts, and is “currently being rolled out for everyone,” as per YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller.

Article continues after ad

How the setting works is by limiting your exposure to Shorts on a given day. In the past, you could set a 15-minute cap, for instance. You would first be warned of your view time, and when hitting 15 minutes, Shorts would be disabled for the remainder of the day. They’re then gone from the mobile app altogether.

Article continues after ad

PixabayIf you prefer not to see any shortform content while browsing on mobile, the option is now there for you.

The Shorts tab itself is hidden, and Shorts are no longer promoted in your recommended feed. So now, if you set the option to zero minutes, you can effectively remove Shorts from your app indefinitely.

This comes three months after YouTube added the option to filter out Shorts when searching on the video-sharing platform. If you truly never want to see a Short again, at least when browsing on mobile, the options are certainly there for you.

Article continues after ad

YouTube users can now entirely remove Shorts from their feeds, if they’d prefer to do so.
