{"id":536685,"date":"2026-04-17T22:10:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T22:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/536685\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T22:10:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T22:10:08","slug":"sheffield-driver-who-killed-police-worker-in-crash-jailed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/536685\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield driver who killed police worker in crash jailed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In a statement read to the court on her behalf, Smart&#8217;s mum said: &#8220;She was a kind, considerate, caring and supportive daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Her dry sense of humour made us laugh constantly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Most heartbreakingly of all&#8221;, she said, was that Smart never got to meet her niece who was named after her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Even now, two years later, hearing an ambulance brings a lump to the throat,&#8221; the family statement added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Her whole family, friends and colleagues loved her and struggle to come to terms with her death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Judge Richardson told Tolan: &#8220;You caused the death of a delightful young woman, aged 29, who had her whole life ahead of her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The family is utterly devastated.
