Billy Corgan<\/a> has made his viewpoint on AI usage for music-making clear, deeming it a \u201cdeal with the devil\u201d.<\/p>\n The Smashing Pumpkins frontman explained his viewpoint on the technology while appearing on the podcast And the Writer Is\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n He shared his staunch commitment to being anti-AI by revealing matter-of-factly, \u201cI refuse, refuse, patently refuse to use AI in my music creation.\u201d<\/p>\n He explained, \u201cTo me, it\u2019s a deal with the devil. Simple. Whether it\u2019s the Promethean fire myth or whatever, to me, you\u2019re literally leaning into the thing that will destroy you. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n Corgan suggested that many of the issues artists are turning to AI to eradicate are actually a fundamental part of art creation.<\/p>\n He shared that \u201cthe pressure, the inspiration, the soul searching, the \u2018I\u2019m not sure I got anything else to say\u2019\u201d is \u201call part of the journey that a songwriter needs to go through<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n In comparison, the 59-year-old prefers working with humans, explaining that he ought to work with \u201ca real person with real feelings and real blood coursing through their veins.\u201d<\/p>\n He went on, \u201cAnd maybe someday we\u2019re gonna argue about a publishing split. But if we\u2019re arguing, it means there\u2019s something of value that we\u2019re arguing over.\u201d<\/p>\n Corgan elaborated, \u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s good that a songwriter\u2019s not sure they have anything left to say, it\u2019s good that a songwriter has to think of a new chord that they haven\u2019t thought of. That\u2019s where the magic comes from, and until that is proven otherwise, I\u2019m sticking with the game I\u2019m in.\u201d<\/p>\n Corgan\u2019s warning didn\u2019t end there. He admonished, \u201cWe\u2019re flirting with the thing that will destroy us as an economy, as a business, as a movement. We\u2019re asking to be eradicated. We\u2019re giving them our information. They already have all our other information.\u201d<\/p>\n In a similar vein, previous Talking Heads frontman David Byrne accused AI of \u201csucking up human knowledge<\/a>,\u201d though he did admit to finding it a \u201cuseful tool in a limited way\u201d.<\/p>\n
