It\u2019s a big day for Lee Cronin fans. Not only is his latest feature, The Mummy, now playing in theaters, but we\u2019ve received quite a few updates on the filmmaker\u2019s upcoming projects. We already reported<\/a> on Cronin\u2019s development of a new horror feature as well as a TV series. Hidden within that same Variety<\/a> interview, he also mentioned what one of his dream projects would be\u2026directing an A Nightmare on Elm Street movie. <\/p>\n Said Cronin when asked about his Mt. Rushmore of film projects, \u201cI would find it very hard not to have a swing at ol\u2019 Freddy Krueger, because he haunted my nightmares throughout my entire childhood and still pops up about four times a year.\u201c<\/p>\n Don\u2019t get too excited, though, because Cronin doesn\u2019t intend for Freddy to haunt his dreams any time soon. <\/p>\n Continued the filmmaker, \u201cBut I actually think it\u2019s unlikely that my next movie will be franchise adjacent \u2014 and that\u2019s something that feels important to me right now.\u201c<\/p>\n Who knows if or when we\u2019ll finally see Freddy return to the big screen (it\u2019s been sixteen long years since the disastrous Elm Street remake). Still, Cronin would be an interesting choice. The director has proven to have a penchant for relentless, gross, bloody terror, all elements in Freddy\u2019s wheelhouse. And even though I didn\u2019t love The Mummy, I have no doubt he\u2019d deliver one vicious Nightmare movie. <\/p>\n More than anything, though, I just hope Freddy comes back sooner than later.
