La Voix says she’d ‘clear the diary’ for a Strictly return<\/p>\n

There are two glittering hosting spots to fill on Strictly Come Dancing<\/a>, and former contestant La Voix<\/a> is ready to waltz straight in. The fan-favourite drag star says she\u2019s \u201cmanifesting a presenting role daily\u201d after her stint on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes I have had the call from the BBC<\/a>,\u201d the drag performer jokes. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t about presenting… it was about moving my car from a parking bay when I was doing Morning Live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behind the humour lays a serious ambition. \u201cI\u2019m absolutely holding out for any involvement in that show. I I loved it,” she says. “People say to me, \u2018Would you do it?\u201d Of course I would! It would be the most amazing presenting role – whether the main show or It Takes Two. Not many people get to go back.”<\/p>\n

The race for the main job has heated up with the likes of Graham Norton, Alison Hammond<\/a> and Amanda Holden all ruling themselves out.<\/p>\n

But La Voix, the stage persona of Christopher Dennis, laughs: \u201cDid they get asked? If I don\u2019t get it I\u2019ll say that. It\u2019s the oldest trick in the book.\u201d<\/p>\n

The star, 46, was a hit last year alongside pro dancer Aljaz \u00adSkorjanec, reaching Blackpool before a foot injury forced her out. Despite not being the strongest dancer, La Voix won over fans thanks to her hilarious exchanges with Tess Daly and attempts to take over Claudia Winkleman’s autocue.<\/p>\n

With the pair stepping away, La Voix is so determined she\u2019s also eyeing up a potential co-host. \u201cJane McDonald would be a great side kick,\u201d she says. \u201cI\u2019d like someone camp and fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another name firmly in the mix is ex-contestant and It Takes Two host Zoe Ball. La Voiz says: \u201cI did Zoe\u2019s make-up for years. Then she got a job on radio, the death knell for make-up artists.”<\/p>\n

Of other rivals, she jokes: \u201cHow camp do we go? Su Pollard? I\u2019d like someone that doesn\u2019t challenge my glamour. I want the bling to come off my jewellery, not Rylan\u2019s teeth.\u201d Viewers also loved seeing La Voix spar with acid-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood. She says of the show\u2019s Mr Nasty: \u201cThat old puppy dog. There\u2019s no worries there at all. Craig is like a Rottweiler in a care home sat at the end of that desk.<\/p>\n

While she\u2019s happy to trade jibes, it\u2019s head judge Shirley Ballas<\/a> that left the biggest impression.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing will ever be as scary as doing a cha cha in front of Shirley Ballas after getting a two. It\u2019s onwards and upwards from now! That show was a beautiful personal moment for me. To have that level of acceptance from the British public was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since leavingthe ballroom, La Voi has achieved another career milestone and followed in the footsteps of Craig Revel Horwood by taking on the role of Miss Hannigan in a touring production of Annie.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dream was always musical theatre, so to headline as Miss Hannigan is a huge jump forward,\u201d she says. \u201cI thought I\u2019d spend years in an ensemble cast, so it\u2019s wonderful. I\u2019d love to take on more roles. But only if Strictly doesn\u2019t happen! I\u2019d clear my diary for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whether she does land one of the biggest jobs in television is yet to be confirmed, but for now La Voix is happiest doing what she does best – making people laugh. She will perform next month as part of TUI’s Marella cruises 30th birthday celebrations performing on board alongside the likes of Pixie Lott, Lemar and BoyzLife.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a joy to perform on a cruise ship. Everyone\u2019s in a fantastic mood. It\u2019s the 30th anniversary so I\u2019m barely old enough to remember when Marella launched but I\u2019ll be celebrating with my impersonations of Shirley Bassey, Cher, and if you\u2019ve never seen my Bonnie Tyler Total Eclipse of the Heart finale let me tell you it is world<\/a> famous. Don\u2019t leave before the second encore.\u201d<\/p>\n

But for La Voix it\u2019s not just what happens on stage that counts but for her audience to impress too.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople put pressure on me for these performances but they\u2019ve got to dress up for this night. It\u2019s a big celebration and we want to make it a night to remember. Get your glad rags on. And if you\u2019ve not worn your best outfit then I will discuss that with you live during the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guessing she’s sailed on over 130 cruises in total, enough to rival pal Jane McDonald, La Voix says she\u2019s learned some tips about dealing with guests along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people get nervous, what I like doing is to walk past the buffet and by the salad and shout \u2018iceberg!\u2019 And then say, \u2018Oh I\u2019m talking about the lettuce.\u2019 That\u2019s a great way to settle people in I always think.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately having a giggle is what La Voix does best and wants to keep on doing. \u201cThe world can be so unfunny and sometimes you can\u2019t see a place where you will fit in. There\u2019s space to forget our troubles for an hour or two and that\u2019s what I pride myself on in my shows. If anyone says comedy is dead in any vain I always say, \u2018That\u2019s rubbish.\u2019<\/p>\n

“I adore making people laugh. After getting the break somewhere like Strictly it feels like the world is my oyster and I want to keep on flying that flag and make everyone laugh at me or with me, I don\u2019t mind which as long as you\u2019re laughing.\u201d<\/p>\n
