{"id":538436,"date":"2026-04-18T21:53:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T21:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/538436\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T21:53:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T21:53:11","slug":"fritz-langs-m-tops-best-films-of-1930s-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/538436\/","title":{"rendered":"Fritz Lang&#8217;s &#8220;M&#8221; Tops Best Films Of 1930s Poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/fritz-langs-m-tops-best-films-of-1930s-poll.jpg\" data-caption=\"Presents\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/fritz-langs-m-tops-best-films-of-1930s-poll.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"fritz-langs-m-tops-best-films-of-1930s-poll\"\/><\/a>Presents<\/p>\n<p>A recent poll of film critics has declared Fritz Lang\u2019s \u201cM\u201d as the greatest film of the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>Just over 100 critics have weighed in on the poll at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldofreel.com\/blog\/2026\/4\/17\/the-best-films-of-the-1930s-according-to-100-critics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World of Reel<\/a>, asked for an unranked list of five films released between 1930 and 1939 that they considered the best of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cM\u201d came out on top by a whisker, just beating out Charlie Chaplin\u2019s \u201cModern Times\u201d with 49 votes, \u201cThe Wizard of Oz\u201d with 47 votes, and Jean Renoir\u2019s \u201cThe Rules of the Game\u201d with 43 votes.<\/p>\n<p>The next nearest, Charlie Chaplin\u2019s \u201cCity Lights,\u201d was well behind that with 30.  Other notable inclusions were \u201cKing Kong\u201d at 7th, \u201cGone with the Wind\u201d at 8th, \u201cBride of Frankenstein\u201d at 12th, \u201cAll Quiet on the Western Front\u201d at 19th, \u201cThe Adventures of Robin Hood\u201d at 21st, \u201cDracula\u201d at 24th, \u201cSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs\u201d at 25th and \u201cThe 39 Steps\u201d at 29th.<\/p>\n<p>Both Howard Hawks and Jean Renoir had three films each in the Top 30, followed by Victor Fleming, Charlie Chaplin and Frank Capra with two each.
