Every third citizen should be tested, with particular attention to at-risk groups,\u201d the Health Ministry\u2019s press service <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/minzdrav_ru\/14612\" title=\"quoted\" rel=\"nofollow\">quoted<\/a> him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The push for broader testing comes as Russia faces one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in Europe, with infections continuing to climb despite record screening levels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tochno.st\/materials\/rekordnyi-oxvat-testirovaniem-i-zakrytye-dannye-o-smertnosti-cto-my-znaem-o-situacii-s-vic-v-rossii-v-2025-godu\" title=\"According to\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to<\/a> state consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, more than 54 million people \u2014 about 37% of the population \u2014 were tested for HIV in 2024, the highest level in at least a decade.<\/p>\n<p>That figure was 7% higher than in 2023 and nearly double the 28.3 million tests conducted in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, World Health Organization data <a href=\"https:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/country-rankings\/hiv-rates-by-country\" title=\"show\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">show<\/a> Russia\u2019s HIV prevalence at 890 cases per 100,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>That is\u00a0comparable to several African countries such as Guinea (874), Liberia (944), Chad (771) and Ethiopia (601), and is markedly higher than in European countries including France (358), Britain (191) and Sweden (171).<\/p>\n<p>The total number of people living with HIV in Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.themoscowtimes.com\/2025\/12\/01\/v-ran-zayavili-o-zarazhenii-kazhdogo-100-rossiyanina-vich-infektsiei-a181478\" title=\"rose\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rose<\/a> by 35,000 in 2025 to reach 1.25 million, according to Vadim Pokrovsky, head of the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for AIDS Prevention and Control.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInfection risks are very high,\u201d Pokrovsky said. \u201cIf we look only at adults aged 15 to 50, more than 1% are infected \u2014 that is, every hundredth person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The figure rises to around 4% among men aged 40 to 45, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Pokrovsky also noted that not all HIV-positive individuals are registered in the healthcare system.
