Castleford Tigers head coach Ryan Carr has spoken to the media and offered an update on the club\u2019s hunt for a new full-back, whilst also reiterating that he does not want to use the loan market.<\/p>\n

Instead, Carr insists that he wants to be able to sign players and build around them, rather than rely on what he believes is a \u2018means to an end\u2019 in terms of the loan market.<\/p>\n

Castleford have found out this week just how volatile the loan market is as Warrington Wolves recalled winger Jake Thewlis, whilst hooker Tom Forber\u2019s deal has also expired meaning that two bodies who played in round seven will not be available for Sunday\u2019s game against Wigan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Asked at his pre-match presse<\/a>r if the club were still interested in utilising the loan market this year, Carr responded: \u201cNo, I think it\u2019s definitely means to an end. It\u2019s a must have not a want to have.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got absolute respect for the guys who have come in and played for us. I think they they tried their absolute best which is all I can ask them, but at the end of the day you want to have a playing squad that that\u2019s yours and you can rely on week in, week out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carr explained that the point of pre-seasons are to \u2018build a team mentality and clarity\u2019, something that loanees obviously haven\u2019t benefited from, leading him to add: \u201cI\u2019m hopeful that we can come out the other side of it, get somebody\u2019s back and and get some players even in the door that are out players that I can build and work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Castleford Tigers still targeting full-back replacement<\/p>\n

Whilst Castleford fans can\u2019t expect any fresh loan additions, they could see permanent signings coming in as Carr confirmed the Tigers are still trying to recruit, albeit with a longer-term view.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still actively recruiting people, [but] we\u2019re trying to bring actual players in that are our players,\u201d he said, before confirming that there have \u2018been a lot of phone calls\u2019 in the club\u2019s bid to find a full-back replacement after Blake Taaffe\u2019s season-ending injury.<\/p>\n

Carr said: \u201cIt always hurts you losing a big-name signing like that in round one and it\u2019s one that has a huge impact. We\u2019ve had him and Hoody [Liam Hood] out for the majority of the year, who is your nine and your one.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not an excuse it\u2019s just a reality and you\u2019ve seen with other teams when you lose key players in spine positions or you lose key players\u00a0within your team that you bring here to give you some x-factor and give you some attacking ability it\u2019s hard to overcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, at the same time, we\u2019ve just got to make sure that whoever\u2019s in that jersey for that time does their job. It\u2019s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carr shares Brad Singleton update<\/p>\n

One man who hasn\u2019t featured in recent weeks and hasn\u2019t been named in this week\u2019s squad is Brad Singleton with Carr confirming that the veteran has \u2018taken some time off for the moment\u2019.<\/p>\n

The head coach said: \u201cWe\u2019re just working through some stuff with him in the background, but we\u2019ll know a little bit more about that in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s working hard and he\u2019s a good bloke. He\u2019s a good fella. I\u2019ve known him a long time, so just making sure that we do the best thing [for him].<\/p>\n

\u201cI just try and do the best thing for each of my players. I don\u2019t treat them all the same, you\u2019ve got to treat them all in where they\u2019re at in their life and in their stage of their career. It\u2019s day-by-day for him, but he\u2019s working hard in the background.\u201d<\/p>\n
