\n\tCharlize Theron<\/a> is censuring Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a> over his \u201cvery reckless\u201d comments concerning the popularity of ballet<\/a> and opera<\/a>, saying artificial intelligence will soon be able to replace actors\u2019 performances but could never be a substitute for the classical performing arts.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe matter came up in an interview with The New York Times<\/a>, where the Oscar-winning Monster actress recalled \u201cdance is probably one of the hardest things I ever did. Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through in complete silence.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro joked, \u201csorry, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet,\u201d Theron said, \u201cOh, boy, I hope I run into him one day. I feel like that was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time. But in about 10 years, I think AI<\/a> is going to be able to do Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live. And we shouldn\u2019t shit on other art forms. How about we start with that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think that [dance is] one of the most disciplined things that I\u2019ve done,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt taught me discipline. It taught me structure. It taught me hard work. It taught me to be tough. It\u2019s borderline abusive. There were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don\u2019t get a day off. I\u2019m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that\u2019s something that you have to practice every single day \u2026 the mindset of just, you don\u2019t give up, there\u2019s no other option, you\u2019re going, you keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Academy Award-nominated\u00a0Marty Supreme\u00a0star found himself in hot water in early March for saying\u00a0\u201cno one cares\u201d about ballet and opera<\/a>\u00a0and that he doesn\u2019t wish to be a niche artist. In the aftermath of the flub, Chalamet was flooded with show invites by ballet and opera companies. He was also\u00a0thoroughly critiqued<\/a>\u00a0by his peers<\/a>,\u00a0some of whom had<\/a>\u00a0harsher words than others<\/a>. The hullabaloo fed the online churn of commentary for weeks, and was also addressed by Oscars host Conan O\u2019Brien in his\u00a0opening monologue<\/a>. \u201cSecurity is extremely tight tonight. I\u2019m told there are concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities,\u201d the former late-night host said.<\/p>\n

\n\tPost Academy Awards, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart joked<\/a> of Chalamet\u2019s loss to Michael B. Jordan in the Best Actor race: \u201cAs of last night, it is clear that opera and ballet have defeated Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet. No contest. A knockout!
