The Nook on Five have apologised for the mistake(Image: CBC\/Nook on Five)<\/p>\n

A restaurant in Cheltenham <\/a>has apologised after mistakenly publishing an AI post falsely claiming that a rival business had closed down. The Nook on Five deleted the post and apologised “unreservedly” after claiming that the nearby Lumiere restaurant had shut it doors.<\/p>\n

The owners of Lumiere insist it is “very much alive and kicking”.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on Facebook earlier this week, a representative of The Nook wrote: “We recently made a serious error in a published piece of content. We owe someone an apology.<\/p>\n

“A recent blog post incorrectly stated that Lumiere – one of Cheltenham’s leading independent restaurants – had closed. This information was entirely false.<\/p>\n

“This error arose from an AI-generated draft that was not appropriately reviewed before publication. That is entirely on us. We are reviewing our processes to ensure it does not happen again.”<\/p>\n

The statement continued: “We apologise unreservedly. To Helen, Jon and the entire team at Lumiere – we are truly sorry for any harm this caused. If you’re visiting Cheltenham, Lumiere is one of the finest independent restaurants in the area.<\/p>\n

“Please go and experience it for yourself.”<\/p>\n

Lumiere is a Michelin Star and AA Rosette awarded restaurant which first opened in 2009. Speaking to the BBC<\/a>, co-owner Helen Howe said “We’ve been here 17 years, and we’re very much alive and kicking”.<\/p>\n

Generative AI has become a contentious issue. While it can help people work more efficiently and save money for businesses, concerns about environmental impact, job losses, and accuracy have made it a divisive issue.<\/p>\n
