Swiss valleys, rolling Tuscan hills and medieval German villages. When searching for breathtaking views, Europe is an absolute goldmine<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now travel editors at Travel + Leisure<\/a> have named the 20 most beautiful places in Europe. Journalist Lydia Mansel interviewed two industry insiders:\u00a0Jim Strong, a member of\u00a0Travel + Leisure’s Travel Advisory Board and president of\u00a0Strong Travel Services, and Emma Major Schroeder, owner and luxury travel advisor at\u00a0Major Traveler, to come up with the definitive list.\u00a0Two British locations were ranked in the list of locations.<\/p>\n

\u2018Wee Mad Road\u2019 in Scotland ranked in ninth place. Found in the\u00a0northwestern part of the Scottish Highlands<\/a>, this endlessly curving road is as beautiful as it is remote. Part of Scotland\u2019s North Coast 500, Strong warned that this scenic road trip is \u2018not for the faint of heart\u2019: the 14-mile stretch is a rugged and treacherous single-lane road filled with hair-pin turns.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0braving the\u00a0drive pays off, because along the route you\u2019ll be rewarded with views of lochs, valleys and beaches.\u00a0Strong added: \u2018The western side of Scotland offers some of the most dramatic and strange sights while driving on small, one-lane roads.\u2019<\/p>\n

The other UK inclusion (in fourth place) was\u00a0Sissinghurst Castle Garden in Kent. Once called the \u2018most famous\u00a020th century garden in England\u2019, Sissinghurst\u2019s garden was created by writer Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson in the 1930s. The\u00a016th-century tower on the grounds has a fascinating history too, with a stint as a prison in the 1700s, to being a home to the women\u2019s land army.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018The lawns and terraced colors of wildflowers of the area are a treat to the soul,\u2019 Strong said. \u2018A stroll around the grounds is tranquil in any weather, but spring and summer are the highlights.\u2019<\/p>\n
