At the end of March, Google started teasing<\/a> a screen-less Fitbit band. 9to5Google can now report that this device will be marketed as the \u201cFitbit Air.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to sources familiar with the matter, the upcoming health band already worn by Stephen Curry will be called the \u201cGoogle Fitbit Air.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fitbit previously used the \u201cAir\u201d moniker for its affordable Aria Air<\/a> smart scale released in 2019. It remains available for $49.95.<\/p>\n

In this context, Air is likely a reference to the wearable\u2019s thinner design<\/a> that allows you to wear it all day.<\/p>\n

While the \u201cFitbit\u201d brand will be used on the new device, it\u2019s a different story on the software and services front.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From what we have gathered today, the \u201cFitbit Premium\u201d subscription service that unlocks AI features will be rebranded as \u201cGoogle Health.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In fact, the \u201cpersonal health coach\u201d that\u2019s currently in public preview<\/a> will be known as the \u201cGoogle Health Coach.\u201d During the testing period, the company has distinctly not branded the software beyond \u201cCoach.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is an interesting move that more closely associates health and wellness features with the core \u201cGoogle\u201d brand rather than Fitbit.\u00a0\u201cGoogle Health\u201d was previously how the company referred to all its efforts in the space, but that\u2019s now \u201cGoogle for Health<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also explains why the teaser shared by Curry ended on the gradient \u2018G\u2019 without any Fitbit branding.<\/p>\n
