(Landline)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Financial reports lodged with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) show Casella Wines, worth over $1 billion, has also increased its debt by $170 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It also notes the company was in breach of the fixed charges cover ratio in its debt covenant at June 30 but received a waiver from its bank in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Casella said the business had a strong balance sheet and was well-positioned to navigate current conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Our message to grape suppliers and employees is that the business is financially stable, and we remain confident in our future,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Vine pull accelerates in the Riverina<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Casella buys almost half the wine grapes grown in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) in southern New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Riverina Winegrape Growers chief executive Jeremy Cass said the company&#8217;s financial results came as no surprise in what was a difficult time for the whole sector.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man with a beard looks at the camera\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/8916c9dcd3e67fc494c75d6ccd5d6a40.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Jeremy Cass expects more grapevines will be removed. (ABC News: Emily Doak)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s devastating to see those sorts of figures come out because it just means that this is going to be pushed further down the line [to growers],&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The MIA has been <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-03-30\/vineyards-removed-nsw-riverina-wine-grape-prices-historic-low\/103628108\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/103628108\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hit hard by the downturn in the wine industry<\/a>, with large areas of grapes taken out of production after years of prices below the cost of production.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Cass said in the past four years, 75 of the region&#8217;s 275 growers had left the industry, while others had reduced the size of their vineyards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;There were about 22,000 hectares in the ground.
