All offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers<\/a>‘ biggest need, at least for me, has been the offensive line.<\/p>\n

With Justin Herbert sacked 54 times last season (third-most in football), it was clear that L.A.’s most prized asset needed better protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tyler Biadasz, a three-time Pro Bowler, was signed in free agency, a good move, but more is needed for Herbert. Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt returning will be a big boost, but as we saw last season, if one of them goes down injured, things go south in a hurry.<\/p>\n

Which is why, for\u00a0NFL.com’s Kevin Patra, the Chargers have to address the offensive line in the NFL Draft, whether that’s getting a starter or bolstering the depth.<\/p>\n

“The health of Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt will be key heading into 2026 after last year\u2019s injuries,” Patra wrote<\/a>. “The Chargers’ offense is significantly different with those two OTs in the lineup. L.A. could use better depth behind them, just in case.<\/p>\n

“Adding Tyler Biadasz at the pivot was a clear upgrade, but questions remain at the guard spots. Overall depth is a must after health issues wreaked havoc last season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chargers can’t afford to stumble in draft<\/p>\n

Holding the No. 22 pick, the Chargers could see the top linemen go off the board early, with the likes of\u00a0Francis Mauigoa, Olaivavega Ioane, Kadyn Proctor, Spencer Fano, Monroe Freeling, and Jake Slaughter the top prospects.<\/p>\n

Will the Chargers look to try and select one of those? Maybe, but pass rush and receiver could also be seen as needs for Jim Harbaugh’s team.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But in truth, given what transpired last season, the offensive line has to be the priority in the first-round, right? Unless there is an absolute stud sitting there at No. 22, the Chargers have to upgrade Herbert’s protection.<\/p>\n

Will the Chargers do it? Your guess is as good as mine.<\/p>\n
