{"id":540545,"date":"2026-04-20T05:49:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T05:49:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/540545\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T05:49:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T05:49:18","slug":"paint-like-substance-kills-fish-and-frogs-at-scottish-beauty-spot-in-pollution-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/540545\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Paint-like substance&#8217; kills fish and frogs at Scottish beauty spot in pollution incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Carron Burn, near Aberlour, leads into the River Spey and was covered in a white paint-like substance.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Officers at the Scottish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/environment\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Environment<\/a> Protection Agency (Sepa) received a report of the incident on Tuesday from local fishermen and traced the source of the pollution back to a layby on the nearby A95.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Spey Fishery Board also conducted its own investigation and tracked the source back to the same layby.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/26030839.delays-expected-major-road-scotland-closed-due-car-fire\/?ref=ed_latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Delays expected as major road in Scotland closed due to car fire<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It was reported that a number of fish as long as frogs died in the incident.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for Sepa: \u201cWe received a report of white discolouration in the water on the afternoon of Tuesday 14th April.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cOn attending, our officers confirmed the impact to the water and detected a turpentine-like odour. Impacts to the burn appeared to be localised at the time, and initial investigations traced the pollution back to a layby on the A95.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe received a further report of white discolouration and more significant impacts in the evening from the Spey Fishery Board, including a number of dead fish.
