{"id":540646,"date":"2026-04-20T07:19:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T07:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/540646\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T07:19:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T07:19:08","slug":"challenges-keeping-kings-path-fully-open-in-dorset-and-hampshire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/540646\/","title":{"rendered":"Challenges keeping King&#8217;s path fully open in Dorset and Hampshire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The path is a continuous trail, allowing walkers to explore the country&#8217;s shoreline on foot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Natural England, the government body which created it, said it is the longest managed coastal walking route in the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But land slips and erosion have led to parts of the trail being rerouted or closed for safety reasons in the south west and along Dorset&#8217;s Jurassic coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Natural England&#8217;s Neil Constable said it would be &#8220;challenging&#8221; to keep the whole route open, but that there was more flexibility to amend the route of the King&#8217;s path than a standard public footpath.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Public footpaths follow very fixed legal lines. If it falls in the sea, it&#8217;s gone,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve got to start from scratch negotiating [with landowners]. But going forward, if that path falls in the sea, the right remains, and we can, talking to the landowner, find a new route for the path that strikes a fair balance.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The path is a continuous trail, allowing walkers to explore the country&#8217;s shoreline on foot.
