Jamie Carragher was at the forefront of Sky Sports\u2019 coverage of Liverpool\u2019s dramatic victory against Merseyside rivals Everton and the former defender was not warmly welcomed by the home supporters<\/p>\n

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher<\/a> was the target of a barrage of abuse before Sunday\u2019s historic Merseyside derby. The Reds travelled to Hill Dickinson Stadium at the weekend for the first time since Everton<\/a> moved into their new stadium.<\/p>\n

And it ended up being a dramatic afternoon, with Liverpool<\/a> defender Virgil van Dijk nodding in a stoppage time winner<\/a>. Mohamed Salah<\/a> and Beto had exchanged strikes after Iliman Ndiaye had a goal ruled out by VAR.<\/p>\n

Carragher was also at the heart of an incident before the game. As he walked around the stadium to reach his position in the Sky Sports<\/a> studio, he received a tirade of comments from one particularly outspoken supporter.<\/p>\n

They were heard saying: \u201cF*** off Carra, you soft c***\u201d before then screaming \u201cF*** off you k***head\u201d. Carragher could be seen responding to the abuse and got involved in a brief exchange, before he then decided to ignore the rest of the comments and continued his walk.<\/p>\n

Carragher eventually ended up having the last laugh, with Van Dijk\u2019s winner. Speaking about Liverpool\u2019s victory, Carragher said: “The result is absolutely huge for Liverpool when you consider the Chelsea<\/a> result yesterday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen that board went up for 11 minutes, I’d have shook with anyone and taken a point from a Liverpool point of view. With the situation with the goalkeeper, Everton were a little bit more threatening. Liverpool were a small team towards the end of that game and I was fearful of set-pieces.<\/p>\n

“When you think of how Liverpool have won this game – two of the absolute legends of the club have done it. They won’t be here much longer. Salah and probably Van Dijk in 12 months’ time.<\/p>\n

“Two of the absolute greats. Salah has done it again against Liverpool’s biggest rivals, as he always does. Against Everton or Man Utd, you can always rely upon him.”<\/p>\n

Liverpool\u2019s win against Everton leaves the Reds sitting fifth in the Premier League<\/a> table and in the final Champions League<\/a> spot. They are next back in action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Crystal Palace<\/a> to Anfield.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a>\u2019s side then face a key game in their fight to return to Europe\u2019s top table, with a clash against bitter rivals Manchester United<\/a> at Old Trafford set to come in just under a fortnight\u2019s time.<\/p>\n
