{"id":541208,"date":"2026-04-20T15:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/541208\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:06:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:06:16","slug":"aulds-manager-stole-68000-from-bakery-to-pay-back-drug-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/541208\/","title":{"rendered":"Aulds manager stole \u00a368,000 from bakery to pay back drug debt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Aulds manager stole \u00a368,000 from the bakery to pay back a drug debt.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Curl, 31, was caught after a string of discrepancies were discovered at Aulds in Glasgow\u2019s St Enoch shopping centre.<\/p>\n<p>Curl accumulated the cash over a 22-month period by voiding some or all of various purchases made by customers.<\/p>\n<p>Senior management then sent mystery shoppers to the bakery where Curl was caught in the act.<\/p>\n<p>Curl, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was employed by Aulds Bakery in January 2018 as a branch manager.<\/p>\n<p>Two years later, retail manager Lesley Marr noted \u201cdiscrepancies\u201d in reports related to \u201cvoided transactions with substantial figures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Marr informed her husband, Alan Marr, who was a managing director, who then told financial director Craig Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>A further investigation by Mrs Marr and Mr Anderson was carried out.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Ryan Watson told Glasgow Sheriff Court: \u201cAs a result of all the information, they were satisfied that Curl was the person responsible for the voided transactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of \u00a368,000 of transactions were voided.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The hearing was told that in the previous manager\u2019s time at the bakery, only \u00a31,000 of transactions had been voided.<\/p>\n<p>A decision was taken by senior management to have mystery shoppers enter Aulds.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Anderson was selected as one of the participants as he had never met Curl.<\/p>\n<p>He purchased several items, however, it was later discovered that the \u00a31.75 he paid for shortbread had been voided.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Watson said: \u201cAnother mystery shopper ordered three coffees, an empire biscuit and a sausage roll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs Marr carried out a search and there was no record of the sale which was voided off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curl was spoken to by Mr Anderson and was asked to give an explanation, but she failed to admit to her conduct.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving legal advice, Curl was sacked from her position.<\/p>\n<p>The Marrs and Mr Anderson then reported Curl to the police.<\/p>\n<p>Curl pleaded guilty to a \u00a368,000 embezzlement charge between March 5, 2018 and January 23, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Watson stated that there has been no repayment by Curl to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Liam Runciman, defending, told the court: \u201cShe is a first offender and has no outstanding matters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe fully appreciates the seriousness of this and what may be the outcome for the disposal in this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had accrued a drug debt prior to this offending which is the background.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Joan Kerr, who continued Curl\u2019s bail.<\/p>\n<p>STV News is now on WhatsApp<\/p>\n<p>Get all the latest news from around the country<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029VaCESJzKgsNvKKNOYO2r\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">      Follow STV News <\/a>Follow STV News on WhatsApp<\/p>\n<p>Scan the QR code on your mobile device for all the latest news from around the country<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/whatsapp-qr.png\" alt=\"WhatsApp channel QR Code\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An Aulds manager stole \u00a368,000 from the bakery to pay back a drug debt.
