Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has heaped praised on departing Reds duo Mohamed Salah<\/a> and Andy Robertson. Thiago left Anfield<\/a> when his contract expired at the end of the 2023\/24 season.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard announced his retirement from professional football in July 2025<\/a> before joining Hansi Flick’s coaching staff at Barcelona as an assistant coach in September that year. The 35-year-old was plagued by injuries during his time on Merseyside and was limited to just one late five-minute appearance during his final season at Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thiago won the FA Cup<\/a> and League Cup<\/a> alongside Salah and Robertson under Jugen Klopp. Now, both Salah and Robertson are set to say their goodbyes this summer to Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And former Barcelona and Bayern Munich star Thiago was full of praise for both players when asked about them by Sky Sports News<\/a> before Monday’s Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid.<\/p>\n

He said: “They are legends of the club, they’re amazing football players. It doesn’t matter where they go, they will still be amazing football players.”<\/p>\n

Thiago was then asked about his thoughts on how Salah’s final season at Anfield has played out. He added: “I haven’t been there, so I couldn’t have an opinion about it, but Mo deserves the best.”<\/p>\n

Thiago has previously spoken about his difficult decision to retire from football<\/a> after leaving the Reds.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter such a long struggle to become a footballer \u2013 then to become the footballer I wanted to be \u2013 the hardest step was accepting that it was coming to an end,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t difficult because of what would come next, but because I had to let go of something I was in love with, due to circumstances beyond my control.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was difficult, but I had to find that peace with myself, that acceptance and pride for the career I had.\u201d<\/p>\n
