Bruno Fernandes is new favourite to win PFA Player of the Year award<\/a><\/p>\nIt\u2019s been quite the downturn from Mikel Arteta\u2019s side, who were on course for the quadruple a few short weeks ago and now face ending the season with nothing as they also prepare for a Champions League semi-final against Atl\u00e9tico Madrid.<\/p>\n
And Walcott got a bit ahead of himself in January when he asked Wayne Rooney if the current Arsenal squad might be a match for the 2008 Manchester United team, which won both the Premier League and Champions League.<\/p>\n
Walcott asked Rooney on Amazon Prime: \u201cWould your \u201908 team compete, well you would compete against this team, but how does it compare to your 2008 team? Which by the way, was probably the best team that I\u2019ve ever played against. This [Arsenal] squad against that one.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Red Devils hero simply answered: \u201cWe\u2019d batter them.\u201d His response drew laughter from Walcott and host Gabby Logan before a smiling Rooney added: \u201cI think we would, I think we would.\u201d<\/p>\n
Three months later and the comments were put to Evra \u2013 a man famed for his forthright views \u2013 by Rio Ferdinand on his podcast.<\/p>\n
Ferdinand and Evra were both key cogs in that 2008 side, widely considered to be one of the greatest, if not\u00a0the\u00a0greatest, team in Premier League history.<\/p>\n
Evra branded Walcott \u201cdelusional\u201d and claimed he should not be allowed back on TV as he\u2019s \u201cdangerous for the kids\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Frenchman said: \u201cNo, I\u2019m leaving. That\u2019s the problem with Arsenal. Now he\u2019s comparing this team with our 2008 team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he\u2019s a menace for society. He should not be on TV. He\u2019s dangerous for the kids. That\u2019s why I keep saying they are delusional. I know I talk with my heart, but they are delusional. This is disrespect. He should never be on TV again when he starts asking questions like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
