{"id":543097,"date":"2026-04-21T16:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T16:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/543097\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T16:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T16:08:11","slug":"surrey-pcc-condemns-shameful-scenes-after-disorder-in-epsom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/543097\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrey PCC condemns &#8216;shameful&#8217; scenes after disorder in Epsom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Epsom Methodist Church closed early amid the protests for safety reasons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Reverend Catherine Hutton, from the church, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_surrey\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Radio Surrey<\/a>: &#8220;I think people have a right to be able to be in their home without feeling threatened and victimised whatever their background, whatever their context.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She has urged people to be &#8220;calm&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We call for people to be respectful of one another and to afford each other the dignity that we ourselves would wish to receive,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hutton said the community would &#8220;come through this&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Epsom&#8217;s an amazing place, it&#8217;s resilient and full of good people that are hopeful and loving and generous and kind,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Epsom Methodist Church closed early amid the protests for safety reasons.
