Come on, fess up: who\u2019s been reading from the Necronomicon again? Yes, the Evil Dead<\/a> franchise is back, ready to deliver a fresh jolt of demonic mischief \u2013 three years after 2023\u2019s Evil Dead Rise<\/a> to a cheese grater to the flesh of Sam Raimi\u2019s cinematic baby<\/a> (which, in this context, is a total compliment). With Lee Cronin off Lee Cronin-ing on Lee Cronin\u2019s The Mummy<\/a>, we now have Evil Dead Burn<\/a>, from French director S\u00e9bastien Vani\u010dek \u2013 and the first teaser promises another wild cinematic ride as only Evil Dead can provide. That is \u2013 quite literally \u2013 one hell of a one-shot, following a terrified resident as she crawls across the floor of her house while bodies crash and grab and float and flail all around. While the Evil Dead films can veer between extreme horror and slapstick comedy, they all have one thing in common: a sense of no-holds-barred kineticism, be it with the camera or its poor human characters. And it looks like Vani\u010dek really got the memo here, chucking bodies with reckless abandon, and putting our poor pink-haired protagonist through the absolute wringer.<\/p>\n

Just like Evil Dead Rise (and 2013\u2019s Evil Dead<\/a> reboot), this is a somewhat standalone entry in the saga, penned by Vani\u010dek along with Florent Bernard \u2013 with Raimi on board as producer, of course. Here\u2019s the synopsis: \u201cAfter the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites \u2014 turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell \u2014 she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.\u201d<\/p>\n

The good news is, this teaser gives us a release date: July 10, meaning the next chapter of the Necronomicon is really not far away. And there\u2019s more to come in the not-too-distant future too \u2013 another standalone Evil Dead film, rumoured to be titled Evil Dead Wrath, is being worked on already by filmmaker Francis Galluppi<\/a> for a 2028 release.
