Julian Casablancas<\/a> of\u00a0The Strokes<\/a> named the \u201cprivilege of Zionists living in the United States\u201d as one of his \u201cmost controversial takes\u201d during an appearance on SubwayTakes with Kareem Rahma<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging the hot-button topic, Casablancas joked with Rahma\u00a0that it was \u201cnice having a career with you,\u201d before delivering his take: \u201cAmerican Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people, but talk like they are Black people during slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Agreeing with Casablancas, Rahma added, \u201cI\u2019ve never seen something so shocking where they\u2019re like, \u2018I\u2019m so oppressed.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018You are going to a wedding in Tel Aviv right now when there are 80,000-plus dead people, including women and children, half a mile away. Absolutely fucked. And totally, you know what? I don\u2019t think it\u2019s bad to say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casablancas continued by addressing potential whataboutism.\u00a0\u201cJust for the people that are going to be like, \u2018Hamas, October 7th.\u2019 Um, yes, bad,\u201d he said. \u201cBut Native American rebellions didn\u2019t mean it was okay to do what we did. Slave rebellions that were violent didn\u2019t mean that slavery is not bad. So, that\u2019s the scope of that answer. Just for the haters.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Casablancas also conceded it is difficult for many to break out of their longtime views about Israel. \u201cIndoctrination is such a strong thing. We just want to be part of the tribe,\u201d he stated. \u201cSo\u00a0I get it, but it is a sad fact the brainwashing of just people in general. You can\u2019t be mad just because something was rammed down their throat, necessarily.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked by Rahma whether he has \u201chope,\u201d Casablancas said people are \u201cawakening\u201d and that he was \u201coptimistic\u201d that change could happen \u201ceventually.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if it\u2019s now, but it could be today, could be tomorrow,\u201d the singer stated, before Rahma chimed in with his opinion that the \u201ccat\u2019s out of the bag\u201d due to Trump\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n

Agreeing, Casablancas added, \u201cWe\u2019re just still mourning. People are still upset. They\u2019re like in The Matrix. They\u2019re like, \u2018What the fuck?\u2019 But eventually, they might become the One.\u201d<\/p>\n

Casablancas\u2019 comments come after The Strokes displayed a video while playing \u201cOblivious\u201d during Coachella Weekend 2, which criticized the actions of the United States<\/a> in Gaza and Iran, while also displaying images of multiple world leaders allegedly targeted by the CIA.<\/p>\n

The Strokes are set to release their next album, Reality Awaits<\/a>, on June 26th.
