{"id":544016,"date":"2026-04-22T04:09:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T04:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/544016\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T04:09:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T04:09:14","slug":"uk-and-france-to-lead-multinational-strait-of-hormuz-military-planning-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/544016\/","title":{"rendered":"UK and France to lead multinational Strait of Hormuz military planning conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK\u00a0and France\u00a0convene\u00a0military\u00a0planners to advance multinational mission to re-open the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Over\u00a030\u00a0nations\u00a0expected\u00a0to\u00a0attend\u00a0the\u00a0conference at UK\u2019s Permanent Joint Headquarters\u00a0in North London.<\/p>\n<p>Military planners will turn diplomatic consensus into\u00a0a detailed military plan for the Strait when hostilities end.<\/p>\n<p>Military\u00a0planners\u00a0from over 30 nations\u00a0will\u00a0today\u00a0(Wednesday 22\u00a0April)\u00a0advance\u00a0detailed planning\u00a0to reopen the Strait of Hormuz\u00a0in a\u00a0two-day\u00a0UK-hosted conference.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0planning talks\u00a0will take place at\u00a0the UK\u2019s Permanent Joint Headquarters\u00a0at Northwood, North London.<\/p>\n<p>The work is\u00a0part of the UK\u00a0and French leadership\u00a0of a multinational coalition\u00a0to reopen the Strait.\u00a0The sessions\u00a0will\u00a0advance\u00a0military\u00a0plans to\u00a0reopen the Strait, as soon as\u00a0conditions permit, following a sustainable ceasefire agreement.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The planning sessions\u00a0build on\u00a0the progress made\u00a0last week\u00a0by\u00a0the Prime Minister\u00a0Sir\u00a0Keir Starmer\u00a0and French President Emmanual Macron\u00a0at\u00a0an\u00a0international summit of 51 countries\u00a0in Paris.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the Summit,\u00a0they called\u00a0for the unconditional, unrestricted, and immediate re-opening\u00a0of the Strait of Hormuz\u00a0and\u00a0confirmed\u00a0the\u00a0establishment\u00a0of an\u00a0independent and strictly defensive multinational mission to protect merchant vessels, reassure commercial shipping\u00a0operators\u00a0and conduct mine clearance operations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the conference, the UK Defence Secretary John Healey MP, said:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s multinational planning conference matters. The task, today and tomorrow, is to translate the diplomatic consensus into a joint plan to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Strait and support a lasting ceasefire. I am confident that, over the next two days, real progress can be made.<\/p>\n<p>International trade, energy security and the stability of the global economy depend on freedom of navigation. By building on our common purpose, strengthening multinational coordination and planning for effective collective action, we can help reopen the Strait, stabilise the global economy and protect our people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">On behalf of people in Britain and internationally whose security and prosperity depend on their success, we are grateful to the planners for their urgency and expertise.
