Five new stations have been opened in Birmingham and the Black Country in the past month\"A<\/p>\n

More than 35,000 trips have been made via the new Birmingham<\/a> railway stations in the first two weeks since they opened.<\/p>\n

Figures released by West Midlands Railway have shown the three new stations on the Camp Hill line and the two new facilities in the Black Country have already proved popular with passengers.<\/p>\n

Journeys made via Moseley<\/a>, Kings Heath<\/a> and Pineapple Road totals at 35,100 since they opened on Tuesday, April 7.<\/p>\n

Willenhall and Darlaston opened just over a month ago on Thursday, March 19 and data shows 17,000 journeys have been made to and from them since.<\/p>\n

The long awaited five new stations were unveiled as part of a \u00a3185 million project.<\/p>\n

The stations have been delivered in partnership with the Department for Transport, West Midlands Railway and Network Rail, as well as Walsall<\/a> and Birmingham City councils.<\/p>\n

People have waited a long time for the return of passenger services to these stations on the Camp Hill line, which have been closed since 1941.<\/p>\n

Over in Willenhall and Darlaston, residents last saw passenger trains stopping off in the towns in 1965.<\/p>\n

The openings signalled the end of a series of frustrating delays which had affected all of the five stations.<\/p>\n

In July 2024, Transport for West Midlands announced the Camp Hill scheme, alongside a raft of other major projects in the region, was to be delayed by a year in the wake of \u00a3121 million budget pressures as a result of soaring costs.<\/p>\n

This was the second delay to hit the project after it was originally due to be scheduled for completion in 2023.<\/p>\n

The news prompted West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker to call for a review of all current and planned projects, saying he had concerns over the funding, delivery and delay while also accusing his predecessor Andy Street of making “grand promises” which weren’t being delivered.<\/p>\n

In turn, Mr Street said he was saddened to see party politics being played over the issue, adding he had “bequeathed to the new Mayor billions in devolved transport funding” for the projects.<\/p>\n
