Yesterday (April 20), a giant ice sculpture appeared in a Toronto car park, courtesy of Drake<\/a>. The rapper promised that the release date for his endlessly<\/a> teased<\/a> ninth studio album, Iceman, was stowed away somewhere inside, and would be revealed once the ice had melted. Naturally, his fans responded by taking to the sculpture with pickaxes and their bare hands\u2014and just a day later, the Twitch streamer Kishka<\/a> uncovered it in an outer block: May 15. Pitchfork has reached out to Drake\u2019s team for confirmation.<\/p>\n

Iceman is the rapper\u2019s first solo effort since 2023\u2019s For All the Dogs\u2014not to mention the first since his earth-scorching battle<\/a> with Kendrick Lamar<\/a>. Drake first spoke of the record\u2019s existence at the top of last year. \u201cWhen the time is right, I\u2019ll be back with another album\u2014a one-on-one conversation with y\u2019all that you need to hear,\u201d he said during a stop on his Anita Max Win Tour. He later teased the project during a series of YouTube livestreams, which featured snippets of new songs presumably on the album, including \u201cWhat Did I Miss?,\u201d \u201cWhich One\u201d featuring Central Cee, and \u201cDog House\u201d featuring Yeat and Julia Wolf.<\/p>\n

In addition to the tour and livestream, Drake stayed productive throughout 2025, with a Valentine\u2019s Day release of $ome $exy $ongs 4 U<\/a>, his collaborative album with PartyNextDoor, and a federal court\u2019s dismissal<\/a> of his defamation suit against Universal Music Group, over its promotion of Lamar\u2019s diss-track \u201cNot Like Us.\u201d \u201cAlthough the accusation that Plaintiff [Drake] is a pedophile is certainly a serious one, the broader context of a heated rap battle, with incendiary language and offensive accusations hurled by both participants, would not incline the reasonable listener to believe that \u2018Not Like Us\u2019 imparts verifiable facts about Plaintiff,\u201d wrote Judge Vargas.<\/p>\n
