Why do many of the parties have more than one candidate on the
\nwhite voting paper? The name of the candidate I want for my area
\nappears third so very confused. Anne Craig, from Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

Phil Sim, political correspondent, says:<\/p>\n

A postal voting pack contains a number of items, which can make
\nthe process a little confusing.<\/p>\n

There’s a constituency ballot paper – usually lilac-coloured –
\nwhich includes individual candidates for your local seat.<\/p>\n

There’s a regional ballot paper – usually peach-coloured – which
\nincludes parties standing in your wider region. In the case of Edinburgh and
\nLothians East, this will include 18 different parties and four independent
\ncandidates.<\/p>\n

And, crucially for this question, there is a separate
\nsheet with the names of the candidates each party has included on their
\nregional lists. I think this is probably the white paper Anne is referring to.<\/p>\n

So you mark a single candidate on the constituency paper, a single
\nparty (or independent) on the regional paper, and seal them in the included
\nenvelope A.<\/p>\n

Then you fill out the “postal voting statement” form,
\npop that and the ballot paper envelope inside the other included
\nenvelope, marked B, and head off to the post box.<\/p>\n
