{"id":545178,"date":"2026-04-22T19:34:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/545178\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T19:34:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:34:11","slug":"bradford-photographers-milky-way-shot-at-flamborough-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/545178\/","title":{"rendered":"Bradford Photographer&#8217;s Milky Way shot at Flamborough Head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Daz Allon took the image at Flamborough Head at around 1.30am on April 18, after setting out to photograph the Milky Way above the distinctive \u2018Drinking Dinosaur\u2019 rock formation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Allon said he arrived at the site in the early hours and spent around an hour and a half photographing the night sky.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Self\u2011taught photographer\u2019s journey<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sharing the image on Facebook, Mr Allon said the photograph was his favourite capture from the night and, in his view, the best Milky Way image he has taken so far.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI\u2019m all self\u2011taught by using search engines and watching video tutorials,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve always had an interest in astronomy.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>  From landscapes to astrophotography<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Allon explained that when he first began photography around eight years ago, his main focus was landscape images.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He explained: \u201cI then started experimenting with astrophotography and had previously taken photos of the Milky Way at Malham and Snowdonia, which were good in their own right, but this has been my best capture to date.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>  Planning, patience and camera settings<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said success in astrophotography often comes down to preparation and using the right equipment and settings.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cIt\u2019s all about the settings on the camera, especially having a wide\u2011angle lens with a very high aperture to let as much light in as possible,\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Allon added that while the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye, it does not appear as vivid as in the final image.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cYou can make it out a bit, similar to the Aurora,\u201d he said. \u201cYou tend to see it better on the back of the camera, and I\u2019ve edited the image with software to make it more vivid.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>  Why timing matters for Milky Way shots<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Allon said the Milky Way\u2019s position in the sky changes throughout the year, making research an important part of planning a shoot.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cThe Milky Way is usually south\u2011facing in mid\u2011summer, but during spring and autumn it can shift from south\u2011east to south\u2011west and be visible at different times of the night&#8230;it\u2019s hardly visible at all from October to February.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Despite the striking results, Mr Allon said he is still developing his skills.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cI\u2019m just a hobbyist who enjoys taking photos whenever I can.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Daz Allon took the image at Flamborough Head at around 1.30am on April 18, after setting out to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":545179,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[31],"tags":[6225,6485,6486,1120,96,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-545178","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-arts-and-design","8":"tag-arts","9":"tag-arts-and-design","10":"tag-artsanddesign","11":"tag-design","12":"tag-entertainment","13":"tag-uk","14":"tag-united-kingdom","15":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/545178","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=545178"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/545178\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/545179"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=545178"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=545178"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=545178"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
