Jordan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/austin-butler\/\" id=\"auto-tag_austin-butler_1\" data-tag=\"austin-butler\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Austin Butler<\/a> have officially signed on to play Ricardo \u201cRico\u201d Tubbs and Sonny Crockett after <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/miami-vice-austin-butler-crockett-michael-b-jordan-1236409675\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/miami-vice-austin-butler-crockett-michael-b-jordan-1236409675\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">long circling the <\/a>project in negotiations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe movie version of the 1980s TV series is inspired by the police show\u2019s pilot episode and first season and is set for a release by Universal Pictures on Aug. 6, 2027. Miami Vice \u201985 will also be a period film, unlike Michael Mann\u2019s 2006 Miami Vice movie that starred Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tButler will play James \u201cSonny\u201d Crockett, a role originated by Don Johnson in the Universal TV series, while Jordan will portray fellow Miami undercover detective Ricardo Tubbs, which was Philip Michael Thomas\u2019 role on the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOscar winner\u00a0Michael B. Jordan starred in Ryan Coogler\u2019s Sinners, Black Panther and Creed III and is set to direct, star and produce a reimagining of\u00a0The Thomas Crown Affair\u00a0for Amazon MGM. Oscar nominee Butler\u00a0played Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann\u2019s Elvis\u00a0and also appeared in\u00a0Dune: Part Two, The Bikeriders, Masters of the Air\u00a0and will also star in the upcoming A24 crime thriller\u00a0Enemies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMiami Vice\u00a0began life as the Anthony Yerkovich-created TV series about two undercover Miami police officers known for their love of pastel suits and ran from 1984 to 1990 on NBC.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tProduction on the Miami Vice \u201985 film will begin this year as Kosinski, coming off directing back-to-back blockbusters with F1:\u00a0The Movie\u00a0and\u00a0Top Gun: Maverick,\u00a0explores the glamour and corruption of mid-\u201980s Miami. Kosinski will shoot the film with Imax cameras, much as he did with\u00a0F1\u00a0and\u00a0Top Gun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMiami Vice \u201985 is produced by Dylan Clark and Kosinski, with Dan Gilroy having penned the script based on characters created by Yerkovich from the series he executive produced with Mann. Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJordan is represented by 1v1 Entertainment and WME, while Butler is represented by WME and Brillstein.
