Dr Julie Sharp, head of health and patient information at CRUK, told the Independent: “There are more than 200 types of cancer, with lots of possible symptoms.<\/p>\n
“It’s impossible to know them all, which is why it’s important to seek your doctor’s advice.<\/p>\n
“Catching cancer early means treatment is more likely to be successful,” she added.<\/p>\n
“If you notice unusual or persistent changes to your health, make an appointment with your GP as soon as possible.”<\/p>\n

Dr Alexandra Oliver, associate clinical director at Bupa Health Clinics, said there are “many” medical conditions that can cause fatigue, including cancer.<\/p>\n
If you find yourself feeling “constantly” exhausted, to the point where it prevents you from working or carrying out your daily routine, you should inform your GP.<\/p>\n
Women who are menstruating or going through the menopause frequently experience night sweats.<\/p>\n
However, certain cancers can present with this same symptom, including leukaemia and liver cancer. Frequent heavy night sweats warrant a visit to your GP.<\/p>\n
Persistent indigestion and heartburn<\/p>\n
Indigestion and heartburn are widespread complaints stemming from particular foods, as well as affecting those who are overweight, smokers or pregnant.<\/p>\n
Acid reflux is commonplace, but when it becomes persistent it can develop into gastroesophageal reflux disease, a hiatus hernia, oesophageal cancer or stomach cancer.<\/p>\n
Long-lasting mouth ulcers<\/p>\n
Mouth ulcers can arise from a variety of causes, including infections, damage from brushing or wisdom teeth complications.<\/p>\n

However, a mouth ulcer that fails to heal within three weeks could be an indicator of mouth cancer.<\/p>\n
Hoarseness is typically associated with a dry or sore throat and can also develop from excessive talking over a brief period.<\/p>\n
It originates from inflammation, but should the symptom persist for more than 10 days it could signal laryngeal cancer.<\/p>\n

Bloating is rarely anything serious and may be caused by a gastrointestinal condition, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).<\/p>\n
However, should the symptom continue for several weeks, it could be connected to gynaecological or bowel cancer.<\/p>\n
Coughs generally clear up on their own and may also be associated with heartburn and allergies.<\/p>\n
