The winning household will take home a £250,000 prize.

From left to right: Dave Sturrock, 66, Christine Sturrock, 71, Katie Lozman, 29 and Jordan Lozman, 34 (Image: ITV)

Speaking to The Northern Echo, the family said they decided to apply after seeing the opportunity advertised online and felt it was something they had to try for.

Jordan said: “There is never really going to be another chance where you can move back into a home with your family, go back to your youth and have no social media, no phone anything like that so it was something I definitely wanted to get on board with.”

Christine said the family were proud to represent the North East on the show. She added: “It is the first ever of its kind and therefore we wanted to be a part of it to represent the region.”

More than 2,500 families applied to take part in the series, with just six households selected.

Christine added: “It was a huge honour to be picked, the region is always highlighted for being number one in crime or always something bad and we wanted to represent it in a different way, show that we are true, honest, hard working people who don’t hesitate to speak their minds and stick by their morals.”

The family described the experience of filming as intense, particularly because they had no contact with the outside world, no phones and did not even know the time during filming.

Jordan said: “We were honest, maybe too honest at times but we are straight talking and that’s the way of the North East.”

Despite the challenges, the family said they would not change anything about their time on the show and that they “absolutely loved” the experience.

Katie, who is a big Graham Norton fan, described meeting the host as a highlight.

She said: “He was one of those down to earth people, he smelt great and he made a real effort to get to learn all of our names and us, which really helped in the process.”

Dave said he was surprised by the scale of the production. He said: “It was like a massive real life world really, it helped you immerse into the show because the scale of it all was incredible.”

Graham Norton with the new neighbours (Image: ITV)

Since filming ended, the family say they have kept in touch with some of the other contestants.

Katie said: “We went on a real journey with them, it was heightened in there and that is part of life those frustrations. At the end of the day, it was a game for money and we had to play it while remaining completely ourselves.”

Christine added: “It is interesting to see how that amount of money brings out the best but also worst sides of people.”

The family are now looking forward to seeing how viewers react when the show airs and hope people in the North East and Darlington feel they represented the region well.

They plan to watch the first episode with family members and have invited their own neighbours round for a special viewing.

Jordan said he may watch the opening moments with his “head in his hands” but said they were excited to finally see the show, as like viewers they have not seen the edit yet.

Christine said: “The local community is really important for us and supporting small businesses too, we wanted to replicate that authenticity of the northern community and how everyone is just so happy to see everyone doing so well.”

Katie said the programme offers something different to many other reality shows.

She said: “Most reality shows are like dating and things now but this is a real one for everyone to watch together.”

Jordan added: “Whether you are 15 or 50 I think everyone in this show, given all the other households too will find something to relate to. Everyone has neighbours and it was a really incredible experience.”

Christine said the show also offered a chance to learn about themselves.

She added: “It was incredible to see how much you learned about yourself and how you react in certain things being a part of the show and it was just great. It is really real and shows real life, we don’t wake up looking like the Kardashians, it is real telly.

“It is like if you have ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in anyone’s home, well now is your chance to do that. I know what we said about people inside and can now see what others have said about us too.”

The family ended by saying they hope people across Darlington, Redcar and the wider North East will tune in and support them when the show airs.

The Neighbourhood will air on ITV1 and STV on Friday, April 24 at 9pm, when it will also be available on ITVX.

Katie Lozman, 29, and Jordan Lozman, 34, from Darlington will take part in The Neighbourhood alongside Jordan’s mum…

[29
96,391,56,54,55
0":"post-546201","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tv","8":"tag-entertainment","9":"tag-tv","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
