Hull FC prop Sam Lisone will be out for three to four months with a pec injury suffered against St Helens last week.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old is set for surgery to correct the issue before a long rehabilitation period. He is the latest significant injury blow for the club, who have brought in Leeds Rhinos prop Jeremiah Mata\u2019utia on loan \u2013 alongside Harry Newman, once again \u2013 ahead of Friday night\u2019s Super League game at Castleford Tigers.<\/p>\n
Providing a full injury update, interim coach Andy Last, who also confirmed Matty Laidlaw will be out with a dead leg, said: “Sam will be going in for surgery, probably next week, on his pec. He will be missing between 14 and 18 weeks.<\/p>\n
“It’s not great, not ideal, but it’s been the story of our season, really. Sam is bitterly disappointed with that but he\u2019ll get operated on and attack his rehab and return-to-play with the professionalism we expect from him.”<\/p>\n
On Laidlaw, Last continued: “Matty failed a fitness test this Thursday morning. He’s unavailable for this week. It’s a shame. Matty has done a reasonable job over the last few weeks. By his own admission, it probably wasn’t his best game last Thursday, but he took a nasty dead leg, which unfortunately is not quite right to be able to play this week.”<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Joe Batchelor is still out with a back injury. He was stated last week to be within a chance of featuring at Castleford but hasn\u2019t made the cut.<\/p>\n
“Joe is just not quite there yet,\u201d Last said. “We\u2019re hopeful he\u2019ll be back for the Toulouse game next week. Joe is very professional. He’s doing everything he needs to be doing. He was running today; he was training and he’s done some return-to-play work with the conditioning staff. Hopefully, we can push him for next week.”<\/p>\n
Harvey Barron also remains out with an ankle injury but is closing in on a hopeful return to action.<\/p>\n
“It’s a little bit symptom-dependent,” Last said. “He’s had a little bit of a scan, and there’s a little bit of damage in there. It’s not significant enough for him to miss games. It’s just one of those where he will have to toughen up a little bit. He’s just working his way through his final bits of rehab. He knows what the issue is. He’s just got to try and be comfortable through the pain he’s got in there.”<\/p>\n
James Bell is also good to go. Last confirmed: “He had a calf issue. He came in over the weekend and got some treatment on it. We were worried it could be a calf pull or tear, but it’s just an impact issue. He’s looked after it and he’s trained well this week. He’s not missed any sessions.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, John Asiata has also had surgery on a hamstring injury that will keep him out until the latter part of the season. Herman Ese\u2019ese (Achilles) and Jed Cartwright (hamstring) continue their respective recoveries and are due back in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
On a lighter note, Jake Arthur will return to the side after recovering from a recent ankle injury. The half-back has missed the last two games with the issue but is ready to go at Castleford alongside two Leeds Rhinos loan players in Harry Newman and Jeremiah Mata’utia.<\/p>\n
“Jake is up to speed and ready,” Last added. “He is composed; he’s got good poise has Jake, and he kicks the ball really, really well. We’ll be asking him to get his hands on plenty of ball. The more we can get Jake, Aidan (Sezer), and Logan (Moy) in around the ball, that bodes well for us moving forward.
