Amy Macdonald<\/a> has admitted a long-distance relationship can be \u201coverwhelming\u201d but she and hubby Richard Foster make it work.<\/p>\n The singer, from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow<\/a>, faces long hours in studios and months travelling around the world on tour.<\/p>\n Former Aberdeen and Rangers<\/a> footballer Richard, 40, has moved around clubs in Scotland and had a stint in America and is assistant manager at League of Ireland Premier Division side Waterford.<\/p>\n Amy, who plays TRNSMT<\/a> this summer, said: \u201cIt\u2019s fine. I\u2019ve been used to this. Throughout his playing career he\u2019s moved about, whether it was Inverness or Ross County or America. It\u2019s something you get used to.<\/p>\n \u201cLoads of people deal with it. You think of people who work offshore or in the Armed Forces.<\/a> You get used to your own situation.<\/p>\n \u201cSometimes things might seem overwhelming until you are put in that position and then you realise you are more resilient and just make it work.\u201d<\/p>\n Amy Macdonald and husband Richard Foster(Image: Instagram\/Amy__Macdonald)<\/p>\n The couple married in 2018 and live in a five-bed property near Glasgow<\/a> with their dog, Vinny.<\/p>\n They have known each other since 2009 but got together when defender Richard played<\/a> for Ross County, then moved to St Johnstone before going back to Ross County and then to Detroit City before hanging up his boots.<\/p>\n And while she\u2019s second on the bill behind Lewis Capaldi<\/a> at TRNSMT, she\u2019s not expecting Richard to be cheering her on at the side of the stage.<\/p>\n Amy<\/a>, 38, said: \u201cHe comes over when he can. He\u2019ll have to see what is happening and their fixture but it\u2019s all great. He\u2019ll probably try and come over to watch TRNSMT because he\u2019ll get FOMO.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve done so many gigs in my life it doesn\u2019t really matter to me if I\u2019ve got people there or not. It just feels like I\u2019m going to work and doing my thing.\u201d<\/p>\n Amy<\/a> always dreamed of being a singer. She was inspired by seeing Travis at T in the Park in 2000 and as a young teen was performing in Glasgow venues.<\/p>\n By 20, at the start of 2008, her debut album This Is The Life was at No1. Next year it\u2019ll be 20 years since its release. She\u2019ll also be turning 40.<\/p>\n Amy<\/a> has no plans yet to mark the year but can\u2019t see herself rocking into her old age like her heroes.<\/p>\n She said: \u201cI \u00addefinitely won\u2019t be a performer like Bruce Springsteen or Iggy Pop who are still performing in their 70s.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve still got a bit of gas in the tank but I won\u2019t be going on for decades. I think I\u2019ll know when the time comes.\u201d<\/p>\n While other musicians might still have goals to fulfil with 12million records sold so far, a string of top 10 albums and more than a billion streams, Amy<\/a> is content with her lot.<\/p>\n Amy Macdonald on air on STV RADIO on Tuesday, April 14(Image: Alan Peebles\/Supplied by STV)<\/p>\n She said: \u201cI don\u2019t have any dreams left to achieve. I\u2019m just happy that I\u2019ve been able to have the career I dreamed of as a child.<\/p>\n \u201cI laugh about this with my sister because she\u2019s very similar to me.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are very ambitious to start and then we just like to coast.<\/p>\n \u201cShe worked her a*** off and now my sister is a consultant neuro\u00adradiologist in the NHS.<\/p>\n \u201cBut she\u2019s now like me thinking you\u2019ve got to go and enjoy your life rather than constantly driving to do the next big thing.<\/p>\n \u201cYou have to realise you\u2019ve done what you dreamed of doing and now you might as well enjoy it.\u201d<\/p>\n Yesterday Amy got involved with Record Store Day for the first time, releasing a limited run of Can You Hear Me? The Remixes, which includes a dance version by George Bowie\u2019s GBX.<\/p>\n She revealed she\u2019s been in a studio, although puts no time on when a new album may come out. Amy said: \u201cI don\u2019t rush it. I know the importance of being at home and around friends and family and able to enjoy all the things I can\u2019t do when I\u2019m constantly working.\u201d<\/p>\n After a not-so-secret acoustic gig at TRNSMT last year, Amy is back at the Glasgow Green festival which runs from June 19 to 21. She said: \u201cLewis is deserving to be headliner. He supported me in Germany at the start of his career.\u201d<\/p>\n As someone who is football mad she already has the first two Scotland games written in her tour schedule and will watch on her phone on her tour bus.<\/p>\n But she\u2019s planning to get to Miami to watch \u00adScotland play Brazil after her TRNSMT gig.<\/p>\n The singer said: \u201cI\u2019ve got my hotel booked. I\u2019m very aware because of global events there might not be many long-haul flights and it might not happen.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd if not I\u2019ll just hang out at TRNSMT for the rest of the night with my friends and then watch the game at home a few days later.\u201d<\/p>\n Can You Hear Me? The Remixes was released yesterday for Record Store Day.
