\n The Jones Family Practice in Hockley is preparing to expand its building to improve healthcare and training facilities, after being granted planning permission by Rochford Council two years ago.\n<\/p>\n
\n The next and final hurdle is securing funding through the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB), a move Conservative Rochford Council leader Danielle Belton said was now being actively pursued.\n<\/p>\n
\n ICB bosses have confirmed it is arranging a meeting with the practice to discuss how the expansion plans can be taken forward.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mrs Belton said: \u201cI am delighted that The Jones Family Practice continue to invest to grow their offer both in Hockley and beyond. The services they provide are vital for our community, and I will do everything I can to ensure they can get section 106 money towards the cost of this expansion.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe need improved services, and the funds collected from the historic developments in the district should be getting spent for the benefit of residents, as quickly as possible.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Mrs Belton and MP for Rayleigh and Wickford Mark Francois met with Professor Mahmud of the practice on Friday, April 17 to discuss the extension.\n<\/p>\n
\n MP Francois said: \u201cIt\u2019s a very exciting project and it would include seven new consulting rooms so that the practice here led by Professor Mahmud can train more GPs to work in the local area because they will have more room to do it.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Professor Mahmud added: \u201cI\u2019m very grateful to the leader of the council. It will also have a big training room facility for all our junior doctors to be trained there.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Extension plans for the GP surgery was first reported in September 2024 when the practice took on an additional 2,000 patients to help meet demand in the community.\n<\/p>\n
\n The planning application from July 10, 2024, states the extension would include the construction of the first floor.\n<\/p>\n
\n Apart from consulting rooms, the extension would include a waiting area, offices, a meeting room, a staff room and toilets built over the western two thirds of the ground floor.\n<\/p>\n
\n The site has no direct access to the public highway yet is located adjacent to the entrance roadway to the public car park on the south side of Southend Road and the pedestrian entrance to the building is onto this roadway.\n<\/p>\n
