However, they are cautious on who they bring in, with Myler admitting that Hull have passed up on full-back options, for one, and instead backed Logan Moy in recent weeks after Zak Hardaker had to be moved to other positions to cover various injuries.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t dip back into other positions, albeit they are content with two Leeds Rhinos loan players, in England international centre Harry Newman and overseas prop Jeremiah Mata’utia for Friday’s game at Castleford Tigers. Their situations will be monitored by the week, with Hull also looking elsewhere in a bid to finish 2026 as strong as possible.

“Recruitment is a 24/7 job and I’m in conversations with Steve as we speak,” Myler told Hull Live. “That’s the way it is – you have to be on it. You can’t wait until September to try and sign players, as it just doesn’t happen.

“It (recruitment) never stops. We’ve constantly been assessing players, our own players, and players that can come in and add to our environment. We’re constantly assessing that. There hasn’t been a pause, contrary to what has been said, while all this has been going on. We haven’t stopped looking. We never do. It’s a constant thing.

“We’re not expecting wholesale changes, but anything that strengthens our club and takes our club, we’ll have that conversation.”

In terms of retention, Myler has confirmed that the only decision not officially announced is Jed Cartwright, who won’t be offered a deal after picking up another lengthy injury back in February. There are still calls to be made on the likes of Brad Fash, Ligi Sao, and Tom Briscoe, not to mention a handful of young players, including Roman Dawson.

“We’ve got some decisions we need to make in the next little while about players that we have currently got,” Myler said. “That’s exciting, for me, as they’ve got the first opportunity to put themselves in the shop window for Steve and show that they want to be part of this club moving forward.

“There are some decisions to make – the only decision we have made is on Jed, and we were clear with that one. As for the rest, there are no decisions made at this moment in time.”

Myler is also dangling the carrot to Hull’s youth – and is insistent the club will continue to hand out opportunity. He wants to see more players follow the lead of Davy Litten, Logan Moy and co into the first team, taking their chances and holding their own.

“We want to promote from within,” Myler said. “We want to produce our own players and produce our own international talent. That’s the next challenge for this club.

“I think it’s exciting with the crop of players that are at the club, and we’re working hard on them in the background. Some of them have got a long way to go to push themselves forward into the first team.

“Like our under-16s, they are outstanding, and everyone is talking about them, but they’ve got to remember they are 15 or 16 years old, but there’s an end goal and an exciting opportunity for them to be able to come through and work hard.

“But I said at the very start of this journey that we have to create and hold an environment that holds people accountable and is able to help that talent flourish and develop. That starts at the top and if we can fix the environment at the top properly and have a really high-performing environment across a whole level of things – our training facilities, our playing environment, our group, our coaching, everything that we do – if we can create all of that, then we will give them the best opportunity to come through. That’s our goal and we’ll keep working hard towards that.”

Richie Myler on Hull FC recruitment, backing their own players, and youth development.
