\n But the Green Party leader of England and Wales said sanctions were the \u201cleast we could do\u201d as he accused Trump of wielding too much power over the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the military alliance between 30 European nations and the US and Canada.\n<\/p>\n
\n The US President threatened to take control of Greenland, a self-autonomous Danish territory, earlier this year.\n<\/p>\n
\n But with Denmark as a member of NATO, any such intervention from the US would breach the alliance.\n<\/p>\n
\n Speaking in Glasgow, Mr Polanski also condemned the US President\u2019s actions in Iran, after he threatened to wipe out an entire civilisation.\n<\/p>\n
\n Addressing Trump Turnberry and the Trump International Links golf courses, the Green Party leader called for \u201ccommunity ownership\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n Sarah Malone, executive vice president of Trump International, Scotland, said the comments were “frankly ludicrous”.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Herald asked whether his stance on NATO membership was the same as the Scottish Greens<\/a>, who want Scotland removed from the alliance.\n<\/p>\n \n He signalled his concerns centred around the US.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cDonald Trump, who has a massive amount of disproportionate power in NATO, has said that he wants to annex Greenland, something the Danish prime minister has said that they think he absolutely intends to do,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cAnd no one who even backs Nato has ever been able to give a coherent answer about what happens when one NATO country starts to attack another NATO country because an attack on all.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \n He added: \u201cMy position would be to build closer alliances with our European neighbours I think we need to build better relationships with them.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cThis idea that Donald Trump and the United States, we have a special relationship with them or they\u2019re in some way, our ally, I just don\u2019t think that stands up to any scrutiny.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cBy the way, it\u2019s not just Donald Trump. I think there\u2019s been problematic presidents for a long time but I think Donald Trump is the clearest indication you can get when he goes out on Truth Social one day and says that he intends to wipe out an entire civilisation.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cAnd then we don\u2019t get a word of condemnation from that from our Prime Minister on the same day, yet he can post about Wireless Festival. It starts to seem a little bit odd of a relationship.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cSo, my personal position is to build that better relationship right now and then when the time is right, once we\u2019ve build an alternative alliance, to withdraw from [NATO] later.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Asked whether his stance on NATO was more about distancing the UK from President Trump, he said: \u201cIt\u2019s not for me to tell Scotland what to do. But I\u2019d really like to see Donald Trump kicked out of his golf courses.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cI don\u2019t think you should be able to start illegal and unpopular wars and still have golf courses and actually, I\u2019d love to see those golf courses brought into community ownership.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n He added: \u201cIt seems outrageous that Donald Trump is still able to enjoy those golf courses.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Mr Polanski added: \u201cWe\u2019ve talked for a long time about sanctions the UK Government<\/a> should be putting on Israel<\/a> and frankly I think there is places where we should be sanctioning Donald Trump, where it\u2019s possible, and I think very likely he is committing war crimes.\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cAnd I think removing him from the golf course feels like the very least we could do.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n Ms Malone, speaking on behalf of Trump International in Scotland, said: : \u201cThe comments in relation to our golf courses in Scotland are frankly ludicrous and ignorant and made by a man who is an imbecile.\u201d \u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n Earlier this month, the US President wrote on social media: \u201cA whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n President Trump faces fresh controversy after stating the US was considering reviewing the UK\u2019s claim to the Falkland Islands over its lack of support for the Iran war.\n<\/p>\n
