Ringo Starr<\/a> will be a key character in\u00a0Sam Mendes\u2019 forthcoming quartet of Beatles films, but the drummer has revealed that he had some early reservations about the dramatisation of his life.<\/p>\n

In the new issue of Uncut<\/a>, Starr discussed his involvement in the movies, as well as his relationship with actor Barry Keoghan, who will play his likeness.<\/p>\n

After revealing that Keoghan had come over to his house \u201cfor two hours and we said hello,\u201d Starr turned his attention to the project as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing about it is, there\u2019s gonna be some reality to it,\u201d the drummer revealed. \u201cThough we all love the Dick Lester movies, we\u2019re just \u2018the boys\u2019, you know. But I spoke to Sam [Mendes] for days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starr reminisced, \u201cThe first time he sent the script, we were in London, and we sat for two days. There was a lot of stuff I personally didn\u2019t want in the film. \u2018OK, we\u2019ll take that out\u2026\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n

After shuffling the script around, Starr knew he had to lay down some of the overwhelming creative control<\/a> that he felt over the project of his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all in each other\u2019s stories,\u201d he continued, \u201cI thought, \u2018I don\u2019t know how he\u2019s going to do it, just let him get on with it.\u2019 We trust him. I\u2019ll be as surprised as any of you, because it\u2019s a movie, not a documentary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Therein lay the issue for Starr: the difference between fiction and non-fiction. He admitted, \u201cThe first couple of weeks, I was stuck in documentary mode. \u2018Well, that didn\u2019t happen then and he wasn\u2019t there\u2026\u2019 In the end, actually speaking to Paul [McCartney], we\u2019re both like, \u2018What\u2019s that? OK, it\u2019s a movie. It\u2019s not a documentary. Let\u2019s relax behind it.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

Starr recently released his latest solo album, Long Long Road,<\/a> which received a happy three-and-a-half-star review from Far Out: \u201cContrary to popular belief, Ringo isn\u2019t exclusively a human peace-sign meme at this stage of his life. It has indeed been a \u201clong, long road,\u201d and the thing worth celebrating is that an 85-year-old man with all the money in the world still enjoys that old-timey Americana music enough to make more of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

All four movies are slated for release in 2028.<\/p>\n
