Depending on the demands of each role, Walsh has helped tailor Teller\u2019s training accordingly.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u2018I\u2019ve been working with Miles for years, and he\u2019s someone who\u2019s always taken the preparation very seriously,\u2019 Walsh told  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mensjournal.com\/health-fitness\/miles-teller-top-gun-maverick-workout\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.mensjournal.com\/health-fitness\/miles-teller-top-gun-maverick-workout\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Men&#039;s Journal\" data-node-id=\"13.1.0\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Men&#8217;s Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Mindset Behind Teller\u2019s Consistency<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"19\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">While achieving specific physiques for roles is part of the job, Teller\u2019s approach to fitness goes beyond that.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"24\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u2018He\u2019s consistent with his diet, whether we\u2019re training for a film or not, so he\u2019s a pretty easy client in that sense,\u2019 Walsh says.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"28\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u2018We don\u2019t talk enough about the psychology of training \u2013 it\u2019s very important. A lot of people start and stop because they don\u2019t have that switch. Miles sees the bigger picture and understands that training keeps him mentally balanced. He values longevity and the application of training. He does the work, puts in the time, and he\u2019s in it for the long run.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Training Method That Keeps Him Screen-Ready<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"34\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">While different roles have required shifts in focus,  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a62950681\/should-you-enjoy-exercise\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/fitness\/a62950681\/should-you-enjoy-exercise\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"intensity\" data-node-id=\"34.1\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">intensity<\/a> has remained a constant. Teller needed to gain 25 pounds while maintaining single-digit body fat, all while building a  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a757285\/best-ab-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a757285\/best-ab-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"core\" data-node-id=\"38.3\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">core<\/a> strong enough to handle the extreme g-forces experienced by fighter pilots.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"42\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">That meant heavy lifting \u2013 including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/how-tos\/a748582\/how-to-deadlift\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/how-tos\/a748582\/how-to-deadlift\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"deadlifts\" data-node-id=\"42.1\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">deadlifts<\/a> over 450 pounds \u2013 alongside targeted core work and learning how to brace effectively under load.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"46\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">That athleticism carried over into 2025\u2019s The Gorge. Push your butt back as far as possible, bend your knees, and reach down to grip the handles. Grip as tightly as possible. Keep your head in a neutral position, keeping your gazed fixed at something in front of you. Squeeze your shoulder blades to create tension, and turn the pits of your elbows forward, facing out.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"90\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Make sure your hips are lower than your shoulders, then prepare to initiate the lift. Push your feet through the floor to stand straight up, squeezing your glutes at the top. Drive your feet into the floor to contract your quads and glutes, and clamp back your shoulder blades to shorten the weight&#8217;s path of travel. This increases neural drive to your chest, delts and triceps. From the starting position, breathe in and lower the weights slowly until they skims the middle of your chest.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"100\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Focus your mind on activating your chest muscles and push the bar dumbbells to the starting position explosively as you breathe out. Hold your weight (dumbbells or a barbell) in front of your thighs. Send your hips behind your heels with a flat back as if you&#8217;re &#8216;shutting a car door&#8217; with your backside. Keep the knees directly above your heels and shins vertical to the floor. As you lower the weight, keep your shoulder blades drawn towards each other and head in line. Feel a stretch in your hamstrings. Move your head slightly back to clear the bar, then return to neutral as the weight passes your face. Fully extend your arms overhead, with biceps close to ears, shoulder blades rotated upward. Think: grow tall at the top. Have one leg resting on the bench behind you, laces down, with your feet in line with your hips. Sink your body down until the knee of your back leg almost touches the floor. The front knee should be at a right angle. With your legs slightly bent, lock your core, keep your back straight and send your hips behind your heels so that your torso is almost perpendicular to the floor. Row the weight upwards in an arc shape towards your hips. Pause and squeeze the shoulder blades together for a beat whilst keeping the shoulders away from the ears.
